Nothing like a little stress to bring out the worst in people. For all of you getting a little butt hurt with concerned solider, give him some room. We don’t know his back ground. He could be dealing with post traumatic stress. I really wish Wayne would start uploading some spooning videos, so those of us that are stuck could at least live vicariously through his adventures.
I might agree with you if it was a single post. But when you spew the same sentiment in multiple posts in multiple threads you have to expect a retort. Regardless of what his (or my for that matter) background is.

Let's just keep those spooning videos you speak of SAFE FOR WORK, please ;)

(and yes, I'm at work on a work computer and network)

@Ryan
The term that you are referring to as a classic liberal is libertarian. I am as well, your response i.e. rant was not the one I was referring to. I agree we need to be vigilant for any encroachment of our rights. This is a classic Mills vs. Kant debate that we are living through. It is times like these that I am so, thankful that Mr. Madison won out in 1787.
As far as concerned solider is concerned, once he calms down he is going to feel like a total tool. You can simply, defuse him by acknowledging him and then moving on. It always takes at least two to have an argument. Please do not take this a lecture, as I agree with your post. I think that a lot of people are really going to start freaking out now that Fox news is taking this seriously.

As long as Wayne is spooning with a fish, I am all about it. Maybe he could start a site called fishhub.com.

@Concerned Soldier
I'm in Page, my boat lives in Page. I did not travel through any states for this outing. I am exempt from the Mussel inspection by completing an online process each year. That said, there was no one there at the entry gate to APM and no ranger there to talk to. Had a ranger been there, I would have hollared from the car that the boat lives in Page. I used the lunch & snack stuff in my home, which is periodically replenished via Wal-Mart click list.

But now that you expounded I understand where your concern arose, yes, if I was driving 2-3-4-5 states away to come to the lake for a one day outing, that would be a different issue and I cannot speak to that as I am not following the various areas which do and do not allow travel. I would imagine a same day drive and launch, bringing ones supplies with them could be done without additional risk to anyone.

I am actually from quite a ways away, but had arrived here in Page for annual repairs and maintenance on my two vacation/vacation rental houses before TSHTF and am staying here, a while longer, as planned ;) My Page homes are empty of guests, lots of repairs and fixes being done. Unless I go to Wal-Mart I don't see anyone, all day. Neighbor chats on the street occur from 10' apart, if they occur at all. Kid has told me to just stay here until she gives the all clear, no sense risking the 1300+ mile drive back until it seems less risky to all. When we traveled here, before things got bad, we were careful with gloves/wipes/masks on the drive and really sequestered ourselves to ensure we did not bring any OOS virus to AZ. There were no cases, yet, in our area when we got to Page, only in the last week or so has it begun in the nursing homes there. My kid is an ED doc in the Seattle area, so I do understand the concerns from an intimate perspective and get daily updates from the front lines.

Anyone catching fish?
Also the major outbreaks are occurring in the big cities where people live in high rises stacked on top of each other breathing the same recirculating air. The gubernment is telling us to stay home and breath said recirculating air. Think about that for a second. Meanwhile the sheep are listening and caving giving up their civil liberties. I have played by the rules for over 3 weeks but rest assured when the wx gets a little bit warmer in Page I’ll be making my way there to get my boat which is already there and get on the lake and the internet warriors can kiss my arse. I will also bring my own groceries of which I personally harvested in hunting season

Mostly in the cities, but dang, the numbers are growing fast on the reservation and Page already had it's first death of a 50 year old man.

Lots of underlying conditions on the Reservation. Diabetes, etc. When Powell is closed I have no doubt Herbert will say he doing it to help out the Navajos.

For more than 100,000 people it will be a death sentence over the next few weeks. For those people living in rural areas where the medical resources are already overwhelmed and recreational areas are attracting risk taking people traveling from outside the county after the president has outlined the problem and asked people to stay home there are still first responders trying to deal with people who didn't stay home and either caused people to get sick or got sick themselves. You may very well be part of the problem if you come to Lake Powell and yes I every day worry about you and your family as I am one of the people who has to try to deal with this problem here at Lake Powell.
The common flu kills 4 times that many every year.
Amen mtnpull!!!!!
My 6 year old and I will be making a run for it next week from our bunker we've been hiding in for the last 3 weeks. We'll be practicing proper social distancing on the north end. All self sustained including our food and won't be coming into contact with anyone in route especially a hot zone like the reservation. Don't plan on spitting on the dock either.

Personally I really wish we had an access to lake that was truly public and not controlled by the federal government. I'm still chapped being locked out of the ramp when Obama shut down the government and wanted to make it as painful as possible for the nation by demanding that all the national parks be closed.

See you all on the water later next week but keep your distance...

As I sit here reading this in my scrubs and grabbing a quick lunch that a local business donated, now would be the time I would usually just say “go fishing”. Probably not the best statement right now. Soldier I appreciate your concern, and yes I am considered front line. I have had 2 days off since feb 27 and most days are long ones. My two days off comprised of being home and taking meetings on my phone. When I get off work it takes me 30 minutes to sanitize enough to go home to my wife and not carry anything bad with me. And..I’m not going to flame you for caring. What I will say is that each person needs to understand social distancing, flattening the curve and personal responsibility. The HANs that have come our are for the most part recommended. They are there to act as guidance for the general public that does not understand what is expected of them. There are clearly those that will do whatever they want regardless. You are correct that those folks will jeopardize the health care of others secondary to overcrowded EDs and ICUs. I also appreciate your concern for your children and other first responders as I have them, and in difficult roles as well. As to this site, I know many of the regular posters and have known and fished with them for many years. Being new to the site you don’t have that insight but I can tell you that the majority, if not all of the folks here are respectful and educated. They have evaluated and discussed the risks and feel that a trip to the lake is just as safe as staying home. Yes, the lake is remote. The majority of users on this site file plans with friends and have backup buddies they can call to come get them if needed, not putting rescuers at risk. They plan for all eventualities. I can tell you I feel the way that they do about a visit and if I can eventually get four days off I will be out getting some solitude at the lake as well. Thanks for your thoughts, I’ll respect them however I am going to say it anyway. Y’all need to go fishing.

TR

TR thank you so much for what you are doing and I know you will do your best at observing social distancing and protecting your family. I have been here for years and do agree with you until I see people walking up to the counter in the little corner store that was just shut down to be cleaned due to an exposed employee and a visitor getting a few inches away from the clerk who has little or no room to backup with beer on his breath asking where the best fishing is, then seeing people wander up sticking their heads inside the booths at the top of the ramp complaining loudly the restrooms are closed to a ranger in a confined space, seeing groups larger than ten gathering at the docks to ready for their trip while others are trying to launch or just staying in the marina continually hanging around getting within a few feet of people trying to stay healthy and do their job, seeing DNR people that have not been tested but have been exposed after self isolation return to work because boats that are owned by people with kids and dogs that won't stay 6' away from the inspector are leaving because they are not feeling well and wonder why the clinic isn't open. If people come prepared with gloves,wipes, a mask if they feel sick, a porta potty, maintain their distance while on land, launch their boat then later don't congregate at the fish cleaning station, go to inspection, get their boat ready while maintaining 6' distance then return to their car and leave that is wonderful especially if they were healthy and tested if not before coming and were careful to follow the rules while traveling even better. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of uninformed people coming to Lake Powell thinking it is safe and they don't have to worry about the issues associated with the virus.

Roger that TR. I do have a SPOT with reliable friends plugged in to contact that will come help me if needed. I won't need to rely on others.

So in all seriousness is Wahweap open minus services or closed now? I was supposed to social distance on our house boat and effect some repairs. Starting tomorrow.

The ramp was open today but nothing else is open. The boat trailer lot had about 20 truck/boat units in it.

Here's a thought- at some point we are going to HAVE to open every business again. You can't just shut down the entire world with the flip of a switch. At some point we are going to have to go back to work and shop and fish and boat. How long do you wait?
We will never be rid of CV-9. It will always be here in some amount. Just like the "regular " flu or pneumonia, people will always catch it. Some people will die. That's life. Just like they do from cancer or suicide or heart attacks. Now maybe we do need to lower the curve for a couple weeks but in the end we will have to open up for business and life and some people WILL die, even then, just like they do now from other causes.

Many of the younger generation don't remember or know of the quarantines in the 50s for Measles. I remember having the city put a yellow quarantine sign on our door. We were off limits to everyone for a couple of weeks. This is nothing new but we did open up again even though the measles were not completely gone in 2 weeks and some people still died from the measles. .

I'm actually thinking about going fishing tomorrow I'm looking at the lake from ,my porch and the urge to get away is there but without interacting with anyone closer than 10 feet just like we do now when we go to Wally World for food. In fact now the pharmacy gives us (we're old) gloves and masks but not 95 masks so the effect is in question.

First, thank you TR. Be safe and careful out there, I want to fish with you again some day! And I love your response, you are always kind and respectful of everyone. I am still chuckling at your rant, that was a good one!!
