Well Sheep we stand to lose the Federal waters of Lake Powell to state overreach. It is a National Recreation area and POTUS has not closed them but these state hero’s can? Totally disgusting. Stay home sheep but joining the masses at Walmart Home Depot and Lowe’s is allowed. Oh and the factories like GM and Ford loaded with people. That’s ok too but don’t you dare go on your private boats sheep

Heck even Andy dandy has left lakes open in Kentucky but suggested a travel ban to neighboring TN

According to latest figures 7,000 American fatalities attributed to CV.

Since this all began a month ago, I cannot help but think about the 400,000 Americans who gave their lives during WWII to protect the very Constitution being shredded by politicians today.

I sincerely hope their sacrifice was not in vain...

Agree with @Kentucky . Why does a state governor have power over a National Rec Area?

I get the desire to be safe/healthy, but this whole pandemic is creating a HUGE overreach by government at all levels.

It’s mostly virtue signaling. Just like with any social media topic prior. Now unless you’re (state leaders) showing you’re doing all you can you truly don’t care... It’s a giant mess, I guess I didn’t really think it would affect all the way down to Powell.

SALT LAKE CITY — Starting Thursday, five of Salt Lake CIty’s golf courses will be reopening under strict guidelines to protect golfers from any possible effects of the COVID-19 virus.

Bonneville, Forest Dale, Nibley Park, Glendale and Rose Park golf courses, which were shut down on March 23, will all reopen, while Mountain Dell will open later this month.

The announcement was made late Tuesday by Salt Lake City Golf Division.

Golfing vs Fishing Golfers have way more political power than fishermen. Go Figure.........................
Renting a Red Box video will expose you more to the coronavirus than Launching a boat on Powell, or camping there for a week. ??
Walking through Walmart to buy a gallon of Milk is far more dangerous than going fishing on Lake Powell.

I think users of Lake Powell are willing to follow those same strict guidelines to protect fishermen from any possible effects of the COVID-19 virus.

I listened too the Gubernor spelling is on purpose. He’s worried about out of state folks transmitting the virus to Utah residents. Newsflash. Salt Lake International is open. Delta flies to jfk from there. So does Jetblue. Close SLC. Meanwhile governor you don’t own the national park nor does your states tax dollars. We all own it as it is FEDERAL and paid with Federal tax dollars. If President Fauci and Birx close it then I guess we are totally screwed but they didn’t.

Her's a thought I've been having on this Corona Virus. It's not a perfect thought or comparison, but here it goes......

What if there was a virus that primarily impacted rural counties, farmers, ranchers, small towns and small cities across the country. Primarily, small towns/cities/farmers/ranchers but not just them, with some cases carrying over into big cities, but not too much impact on the big cities.

It becomes so bad for the small cities, towns, farmers, ranchers that they demand that all of NYC and LA and Chicago and San Francisco and Phoenix and Salt Lake City close down all business and commerce immediately. How do you think that would go over?

Again, I know this isn't a perfect simile, but it's how I'm feeling right now. Peace out.
This is inanity! They are going to push us into another Great Depression if they don't stop this and let us go back to work. The death rate is less than 1%. All the models they've been touting on tv are false. There's been just over 7,000 deaths and if you match that up to the actual number of cases the math doesn't add up.

The press briefing is in this article. Lake Powell is discussed about the 18:00 min mark.
His words were "to get them closed over the weekend". You could take that a couple ways I suppose, that's probably wishful thinking though. Also, he states that he is working closely with the Secretary of the Inferior on this and thanked him for his cooperation, so evidently he doesn't have the sole authority to close it down, the feds are on board as well. This sucks...

Not Lake Powell but great information regarding the State Parks here in southern Utah. I had a customer yesterday that got chased out of San Juan County because he lives up north (Price area). Problematic thing I have seen is local advertising saying come to our area to social distance and I am seeing a lot of campers that are just doing just that. They are flocking into our remote wilderness. Just hoping none of them are asymptomatic. Since we have people passing thru from areas with high counts of Covid-19, I will be "masking up". I am still open for business for those of you going to the lake. I have latex gloves and hand sanitizer for everyone's use while at my shop. Stay safe everyone!

OK, here's the link:

On another aspect of Lake Powell, an Aramark employee informed me that if an employee does an over night trip (shopping) to another city even as close as Price, UT, they are automatically put on a 14 day quarantine when they re-enter the park. I would love to think this is factual but I have not heard anything official. This was just what an employee told me. Maybe someone from the park can chime in to confirm or deny.

I am very disappointed my prediction for closing dates was correct. Very sad. Seems some of the high mountain lakes will melt out in about two weeks. After that our national forests will be off limits. I am out there right now but the ice is getting me down. If I just had two more weeks. Seeing a fair amount of CA plates. And I don’t blame them a bit.

I live at the Lake My porch overlooks Wahweap Bay There is NOBODY on the lake to speak of. I saw 1 jet ski today,
Not exactly a threat to anyone.
The fish cleaning station at Wahweap is working EXCEPT they took the hoses and nozzles off.
Drove through tonight just before dark and saw ONE car on the road the entire time I was in there.
Social Distancing?
Folks- Its all driven by social media.
You won't be able to hold 350 million people in jail for very long. I predict it will fall apart by the end of the month (or earlier) whether or not they lift the stay at home order.

The calculation for staying or going depends on how long the lockdown will last. If Powell is going to be closed until a vaccine arrives it is a whole different issue. People are starting to realize that but the cold weather has slowed things down.

I live at the lake also.

People are streaming in and out all day long. Only one public store and bathroom open where I live.
3-5 Vehicles a time at the only place that is open from my Lake Porch View.
Cabin Cruisers and Bass boat launching regularly.
President, and both State Governors have asked people to stay home except for essential functions.
Putting others at risk is just pure selfishness. We need to come together to protect the resources we have. If we continue to flip the bird to the suggestions then Glen Canyon will follow other areas and hard close.

I went to AP public launch ramp, just ferried the pups across the channel to be socially distant there on the island. Again, local, and, again, did not have to touch anything anyone else will touch, except perhaps a random rock!

I was surprised how many more people I saw today, at least three boats pulled out, none seemed to be too close to each other. I saw a couple of jet skis and a couple of power boats go by. I mean, way less than a normal day, but busier than I thought given the cool weather (59F) etc.

I hope Hebert does not end up closing the lake, that would be a shame, but I do recall the Federal shut down, that was also bogus, so am psyched up for it. Being a snowflake boater, wanting no wind, there have not been many days warm enough and calm enough to boat in all of March, we've only been out twice, both this week.

@TightLine you have posted several times that it is "selfish" to not obey the "stay at home" order.

Here is the way I look at it. The government at this point in time is asking 100% of the population to shut down their lives in an attempt to protect what, somewhere between 1% - 3% of the population that is truly at risk of a terrible outcome. And in doing this, has caused somewhere in the neighborhood of 33% unemployment (and growing), a rate that is higher than we had during the Great Depression, and throwing the WORLD into a recession, with the very real threat of it becoming a full blown depression. As opposed to the 1% - 3% of the population COVID has dire consequences for (heck, double that % if it makes you feel better), we as a society are willing to put the vast majority of the world population at immense financial risk.

Access to Lake Powell is small potatoes. The real risk is what is happening to the economy, as well our civil liberties. At some point we have to be able to get back to some semblance of a normal life.

Either way, tell me which side is being "selfish" here?

I also observed a constant stream coming in mainly from other states that are having a higher rate of infection. Freedom has always had a high cost, just ask any soldier. When we fight a war, as our commander in chief has declared the pandemic, we fight it as a nation. I am saddened to see these important supply lines and resources being divided between the states and making governors responsible for fighting a battle they are ill prepared to fight. This exercise in state's rights is delaying victory and doing a lot of damage to the economy and costing a lot of lives. I believe in states rights but the state I was born in motto is "United we stand divided we fall." The same thing is happening with the National Parks except now the head of the Department of Interior is having to deal with locals and state governors with no guidance from our president sadly except "Stay at home." Only when we are able to test everyone will we have an idea of how long the problem will last. Until then "Stay at home." is the only and best solution. Not what any of us wants to hear but you get only what the president you selected is willing or able to give the country.
