No matter how we don't want to here what you are saying on a this fishing forum, I know you are right about this, and I have found out from fishing, that no matter how hard you try to social distant yourself , you are still doing it. And I've all way's been a believer in right is right. And for what it is worth, think you raise a very good point that we should all listen to.
Have a good one man

With all this that is going on right now, does anyone think that they will close the entrances to Powell? I would love the opportunity to distance myself on the lake. Just worried that they might remove the parks people from the entrance pay stations.
Here's a couple relevant quotes from the latest NPS update re; Glen Canyon NRA
All campgrounds in Glen Canyon are closed: Wahweap, Bullfrog, Halls Crossing, Lone Rock Beach, Stanton Creek, Lees Ferry. Primitive camping by boat that is not on Lone Rock or Stanton Creek is open.
Public boat ramps at the Wahweap Marina, Antelope Point Marina, Lees Ferry, Bullfrog, and Halls Crossing remain open to the public. We will continue our partnership with the states of Arizona and Utah in prevention of quagga mussels. Inspection stations will be open.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Entrance Stations are open with fees suspended. No fee booth locations or Headquarters will be selling passes. You may enter the park
When contemplating a visit to a national park, the NPS asks people to adhere to CDC guidance and Leave No Trace principles. The NPS encourages visitors to pack out everything you bring into a park; plan a visit at times other than busiest of the day; maintain social distance from other visitors; park only in designated areas; and reconsider parking at a crowded trailhead or overlook.

Good news for allot of people. I think if you're inside the park boundary even in San Juan county you should be safe according to this. Unfortunately there is a big weather system off the So Cal/ Baja coast that is going to screw things up through next week.

There is no reason to close Stanton camping. The rangers rarely if ever check on camping there over the past 14 years we have actively camped. Walmart and many other stores and many services remain open with much closer contact than any ranger would have. The feds seem to be over reacting on many instances. Is this more of the SWAMP?

Stanton and lone rock closing actually make sense to me. If there was a spot where thousands could congregate and totally negate social distancing at Powell it would be at those two spots.

Good morning everyone,
I just wanted to give some helpful information for anyone wanting to fish and camp on the Bullfrog side. We are getting phone calls, asking about camping options between Hanksville and Lake Powell. I’ve been surprised that everyone I’ve talked with had no idea Hanksville has Camping available, Grassy spots for tents as well as camp trailer and motor home spots.
There is a wonderful campground in Hanksville it’s , Duke’s Slick Rock Restaurant & Campground. There is food here as well, 2 restaurants are doing take out.
Also BLM camping at Star Springs Campground at MM 17 on Hwy 276.

and if it would happen then it could be limited or closed. We do not need to curtail outdoor opportunity for "what if" scenarios " particularly in such stressful times.

But there are no "ifs", "thens," or "what ifs" with those spots. In your average year many people congregate in those two spots. I agree with your premise on truly what if scenarios but these arent those. Combine a regularly visited year in those two spots and combine them with this current state and there would be even more because it would be one of the actual remaining things open. I'm just glad that they havent closed the entire park. They (GCNRA) seem to be taking a pretty rational approach when other areas are just closing everything because of true what if scenarios.

As I sit here reading this in my scrubs and grabbing a quick lunch that a local business donated, now would be the time I would usually just say “go fishing”. Probably not the best statement right now. Soldier I appreciate your concern, and yes I am considered front line. I have had 2 days off since feb 27 and most days are long ones. My two days off comprised of being home and taking meetings on my phone. When I get off work it takes me 30 minutes to sanitize enough to go home to my wife and not carry anything bad with me. And..I’m not going to flame you for caring. What I will say is that each person needs to understand social distancing, flattening the curve and personal responsibility. The HANs that have come our are for the most part recommended. They are there to act as guidance for the general public that does not understand what is expected of them. There are clearly those that will do whatever they want regardless. You are correct that those folks will jeopardize the health care of others secondary to overcrowded EDs and ICUs. I also appreciate your concern for your children and other first responders as I have them, and in difficult roles as well. As to this site, I know many of the regular posters and have known and fished with them for many years. Being new to the site you don’t have that insight but I can tell you that the majority, if not all of the folks here are respectful and educated. They have evaluated and discussed the risks and feel that a trip to the lake is just as safe as staying home. Yes, the lake is remote. The majority of users on this site file plans with friends and have backup buddies they can call to come get them if needed, not putting rescuers at risk. They plan for all eventualities. I can tell you I feel the way that they do about a visit and if I can eventually get four days off I will be out getting some solitude at the lake as well. Thanks for your thoughts, I’ll respect them however I am going to say it anyway. Y’all need to go fishing.

TR
TR, thanks for all you are doing. Stay safe.

I've been twice in the last two week's, that is why I agree with Concerned soldier, I went to the same place last year, and saw two people in three trip's, this year in two trip's I've seen a whole bunch, and with thousand's off work in Utah, Colorado, and who know's from how many other sate's, that have all way's wanted to come to Powell "ARE COMING THIS YEAR" of all year's, but it is a fact. And I saw how hard it is when your in a camp, and people ignore the social distancing, I'm there at that age, where they have us wandering, If I get this, will I survive? It is a concern for sure, and I've been twice so I'm not a paranoid person, but have tried to be smart.

Watching Gov Herberts press conference he is saying Lake Powell boat Ramps will be closed by the end of the week. :(
I don't agree with this decision, but I have not seen the data they used to make this decision. Being here on the lake and around the marinas for a week, I've not seen a single instance of anyone violating improper social distancing. I understand why SLC/County would want and need strict restrictions, but many places in rural Utah may not need it - their local government officials should be able to make this decision for their community. It seems the SLC mayor's begging for the state to close for a week has worked. BTW, The GCNRA website, updated today, 4/3, still states that ramps are open - possibly it has not been updated yet.

He just announced it in his press conference. It probably hasn't hit print yet.
He said it is to keep people from out of state coming into Utah to visit the parks. Maybe he will leave it open to Utahans but it didn't sound too promising.

I just listened to a replay of the Governors speech after seeing the message from Striper Slayer - The Governor said (paraphrased) "if you are driving to St. George to your second home from SLC and you are halfway there, you should turn around and go back to your home in SLC." A statement that makes no sense.

He also said he is working with the State of AZ to close the ramps at Lake Powell, and he expected them to be closed by this weekend. So apparently, AZ is on board with this. It's a sad day.

I just wrote a nasty rant, then deleted it before posting. Probably a smart thing, but I do wonder what has happened to our country.

This is the only mention of anything affecting Powell in the official release that I can find.
In addition, houseboat rentals at Wahweap and Bullfrog parts of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will be closed beginning Saturday. Boat rentals were closed in those areas on Thursday.

Her's a thought I've been having on this Corona Virus. It's not a perfect thought or comparison, but here it goes......

What if there was a virus that primarily impacted rural counties, farmers, ranchers, small towns and small cities across the country. Primarily, small towns/cities/farmers/ranchers but not just them, with some cases carrying over into big cities, but not too much impact on the big cities.

It becomes so bad for the small cities, towns, farmers, ranchers that they demand that all of NYC and LA and Chicago and San Francisco and Phoenix and Salt Lake City close down all business and commerce immediately. How do you think that would go over?

Again, I know this isn't a perfect simile, but it's how I'm feeling right now. Peace out.
