Bullfrog North (Executive) Ramp

I guess I don't understand? Are they afraid people launching are going to damage the ramp? Are they trying to protect people from the shallow water beyond the ramp? They always say launch and boat at your own risk, so inform what the dangers are and let us decide.

They said it would be done and I understood that launching would be permitted by May 1.

It appears that they have plates that could be put in to protect the rock base at the bottom of the ramp. The concrete is cured and should be ready to go.

Instead of the NPS trying to help it seems like they are trying to show their power to rule over the public. They need to help people launch their boats, and do everything they can to be the good guys, not the bad guys. Giving a ticket to someone without a good reason seems unreasonable to me. Maybe I don't understand their reasoning.

It's kind of like the government trying to make everyone get the covid shots and wear face masks, and the people rebelled and refused because this country was based on freedom. If they are trying to protect the boating public, they need to post the dangers, state that the ramp is closed because of the dangers, but let us decide if we want to go around the closed barriers and take the chance.

One more thing I don't understand is the parking. I was told that they don't allow any parking on the main Bulfrog ramp. Why not? They have the concrete in place and could park vehicles on both sides of the ramp and still have plenty of room in the middle. I don't see where parking on the ramp could hurt a thing.

i wonder if it is just because people parking on the ramp might get hit by people launching and retrieving boats? though i really don't know.

good luck everyone and play safe! :)

Just typical NPS BS. Anything they can do to slow things down, make things more challenging, or write you a ticket they are all on board for. Anything that would be helpful and help people enjoy the lake more they are against. Move the barriers and let people launch at their own risk. Throw a couple dump trucks full of gravel over on the spur where people are launching in the mud. Paint some lines on the main ramp so people can park there. Get a real shuttle service running between the executive ramp and the other parking lots. Quit giving tickets to people offering to give other people rides up the boat ramp on their tailgate. Quit pulling people over on the lake because "it looks like your surf rope is too short". Overall quit harassing people and offer to actually help and make the experience better. I have never seen such power hungry authoritarian Park Rangers as the ones from NPS at Lake Powell.

Aren't they supposed to work for us?

I've known many LEOs in my time. Had a CHP as a neighbor for 20 years. MOST are nice, reasonable humans.....the 1 bad apple thing, ya know.

BUT, don't kid yourself there is a 'unspoken' ticket 'quota'. They all tell me if they don't write tickets, they look like they aren't doing their job, and the supervisor has to show revenue $$$ generated.

So, today's cops and rangers look for easy revenue targets.....anyone here get a ticket for not wearing a useless face diaper?

But I digress.....

Can anyone call Billy Shott and have him call off his junkyard dogs???

Are folks helping pull boats out at the primitive ramp?
I have a 26' open bow I'm pretty sure I can get in the water if there is 3' to work with but I suspect there will be difficulties pulling 6000 lbs of boat and trailer back out with the truck tires on mud. I'm thinking I will need another truck to pull from dry ground.

I always carried a professional tow strap, about 30 feet long, in my truck to help and be helped. Increases the odds that someone will volunteer to throw the loop onto their hitch and give you a yank.

I also have a tow strap and D ring in both my truck and my Jeep. Have used them multiple times, in various circumstance.

I have a good strap and chains to help out and be helped out. I'm kindof wondering if people are taking turns pulling other people out or not. I'm certainly happy to do my part, drop the trailer and hook up to a few people if needed.

Wait until you meet the Little Nazi NPS guy at the top of the Bulfrog ramp that told me I could not get out of my truck while he was inspecting and documenting my boat prior to launch.

That's not the name I gave him, but that is what my wife called him.

Don't get me wrong. I am pro law enforcement. I have a lot of respect for most of them. Especially when they actually serve and protect like they are supposed to do. Just seems like they send all the rejects who didn't make the cut in real civilized places to Bullfrog because they are in the middle of nowhere and probably can't screw up too bad. And don't even get me started on the ticket quota thing. Job performance for a public servant should never be measured by how much revenue they collect through harassing the public they are supposed to serve and protect. That is the exact opposite of serving and protecting.

Just arrived….windy! Going to attempt at the main ramp, my brother just talked to the NPS Ranger, he’s ticketing folks that launch on Executive, but it was being accomplished…at a cost! Hope to update when we get on the water and to the HB….hope wind doesn’t effect our launch in anyway🤞🏼

Yeah I launched yesterday there also I probably saw you. Looks like I chose wisely by going to the dirt launch and not getting ticketed. It went from dead flat calm all morning up until about 11 a.m. and then I'll heck broke loose. I barely got out of Bullfrog and into Halls Creek where I'm camping. 3 and 4 ft wave action Whitecaps blowing sand it sucked. I setup my 12 ft for the boat and I'm pulling it with a 300lb I setup my 12 ft for the boat and I'm pulling it with a 300hp Jetski. I think this is a first for Lake Powell LOL! The Rangers saw me they looked at me very curiously but just waved.

Caught a couple stripers this morning, had them for lunch today. Gotta run back to Halls with no service.....

Maybe we need to talk about the good ones. It is really easy to remember and talk about bad experiences.

I remember the one that went and got tools and a jack to help me fix a broken spring on my trailer. I also remember the one at the entrance gate that let me into the park for free to look around and see what was available for a possible future trip. And the one that went and found me an extension cord for my power hookup because my power cord was a few feet short of reaching the electrical box.

There are some really great people out there, and they suffer from the one bad apple. I really do appreciate the good ones that are there to help and serve as best they possibly can. Thanks
