NOT SURE ABOUT 20 times more lethal than the flu??? There are many questions on the actual mortality rate. I saw a "Medical Expert" on a news program state it at .9% there are many cases not even being detected or reported, so there most likely are many more cases of people getting it having mild symptoms and recovering without ever being counted. Elderly, the very young and immune compromised people are most likely to have severe effects. Most healthy people will recover and be immune from reinfection from what I have read.

.9% is 9X more lethal. Normal flu is .1%

China reported a 2.3% death rate and according to the report I read, 1% is likely in the U.S. Is it concerning, yes. Should we panic, no. The flu death rate is 0.05%, which is significantly lower, but since COVID-19 hasn‘t been around for that long, it’s hard to know. At face value, it’s concerning and the amount of caution and preventative measures are warranted.

All said, I going to be going to Powell as much as possible.

Why would you check people coming in from countries that are not affected by the virus? The DR???
What more should we do than we are already doing for a "threat" that at present is very small here in our country?
Supplies are being ramped up, people from affected countries are restricted, tested or banned.
All medical facilities in the country are aware of the virus and how to test and quarantine suspected individuals.
Those that have died have been for the vast majority either from countries with substandard medical facilities (China) or patients that already have a compromised health profile.
Take China out of the death equation and then tell me what the real 1st world death rate is.
How high would the death rate be if it had started in Europe instead of China? My guess is half or less total %.
People are getting panicked over nothing at this point.
The masks are for those that are infected NOT to prevent infection, they don't work that way. AND, for real protection it needs to be a 95% mask, not just a paper covering.
We have to be vigilant but its not panic time either.
What more can be done at this point? Please tell me.

So back to the main topic, yes international tourism is expecting a big hit. It's expected that local USA folks will catch on to lower hotel rates. National Parks & such will be less crowded and will hopefully result in a small surge to family summer travel.

Most of the Asia tours are a variety of buses from 30 to 50 peeps. These buses often pickup in LA, stop in Vegas & then head to the Grand Canyon. Then it's on to Utah's national parks then north to Grand Teton & Yellowstone. They bolt west after to San Francisco or Seattle and fly home. For fun they really like China Town in San Fran. Chinese families take great pride that distant relatives migrated to build the railroads in the mid 1800's.

So the buses utilize hotels all over the west. Usually the same hotels hold contracts for certain nights of the week in different cities. They are usually mid range hotels so expect lower rates this summer at your average hotels but not high end properties. I expect Page catches a few of these buses throughout the travel season due to it's proximity to Grand Canyon & Bryce.

I am hopeful for all of you, may many big fish be in your future!
I have a bass boat at Bullfrog & usually visit the the first week of Oct. I currently work for Yellowstone Vacations. Bonus - I just got this eagle pic today along the Madison river, ha ha... he or she was most likely fishing :D

For many hotels, rates are up in Page starting next weekend from where they have been all winter. I don't know how they compare with previous years though.

As of March 16 in Page:
The Mandarin Gourmet is closed due to no tour buses, which have been missing about a month now
Many restaurants are doing take out not eat in
The reservation is closed including Antelope Canyon and all the other slots
I have vacation rental homes and have, so far, only had one cancellation, but expect more as Europeans discover they cannot travel, but it seems like everyone other than a school group are holding tight and waiting to see.
I hear the hotels are having a lot of vacancies. I don't drop my prices a lot as cheaper prices seem to bring on more damages, but I can offer WW people a discount as every forum member who has ever stayed has been a great guest.

I'd bet Amangiri is not discounting.

Thank you for the report.

No Mandarin Gourmet? Say it ain’t so!

I didn’t read all of the posts but Coronavirus is unknown territory and it has shutdown the las Vegas strip so I wouldn’t take it lightly if you’re elderly be Careful and always share Resources with people!! The hoarding going on is ridiculous.

I talked to our house boat manager today who said he has a client that is paying double to de-winterize his houseboat so that he can practice social distancing out on the lake until further notice.

He also said there’s no toilet paper to be bought in Page

Apparently the same people own both Chinese restaurants and both are closed, and they are a new family in the last year, not the old guy who'd had a stroke or Bels Palsy and used to cashier. I know last fall the food was just a bit different.

Wow, Wal-Mart today has not gotten very stocked or else it was stocked and cleared again: no eggs, no butter, no peanut butter, no rice, no pasta, no boxed mac& cheese, no soup, no bread (except a bit in the bakery), not much meat at all, not much bacon or lunch meat. No TP/PT/disinfectant cleaning supplies, no laundry soap. Bizarre. I'm just glad I arrived last week and not today so I got a bit of stuff.

Go to worldometers.info. The site gives you new cases, recovered cases, critical cases, and a bunch of more info about the virus. It updates real time.

Heard a mortality rate of 2.3% so that makes it about 3 times worst than the seasonal Flu.
The season flu has an average mortality rate of 0.1%. Using your number of 2.3%, covid 19 is around 23 times more lethal. Latest studies also indicate that covid 19 is almost twice as contagious as the seasonal flu.
