I agree. My main go to for jigs.You can never go wrong with Chartreuse

I use Chartreuse or Pearl white Jigs, and that's my favorite way to fish, Powell or trout either one, 3/8 to 1/16th jigs, according to how they are biting. I all ways start big and go from there.

Are there walleye in Roosevelt? I just bought property about 10 miles from the north ramp, I’ve just heard about the crappie and bass, haven’t fished it yet

They are in Apache lake. Apparently they don't spawn there though from what I've read.

Caught this at Good Hope Bay, Ticaboo Creek area. It is out of the water now. Was casting towards shore with a curley tailed jig with an 1/8 ounce head. This was a great fishing trip. Small mouth, Large mouth and Crappie. We actually went up there to target stripers and we did catch a few but casting towards the shore was so hot that we spent most of the trip fishing the shore lines.
Just a little humor... My brother was with me and saying what a fantastic time he was having. All smiles. He got so excited that on one cast he actually through his entire outfit out of the back of the boat. Pole, reel, everything gone. As you might imagine he took a little ribbing the rest of trip. Great memories on that lake.

I live fairly close to the Salt River chain lakes so I talked to the biologist about walleye in Apache specifically. They use to trade some trout to UT for triploid walleye. This program fell through about 5- 7 years ago can’t remember the exact date so they have not stocked them in the salt river chain lakes since then. That being said there may be a few still hanging around in there but the numbers would be very low. I have not talked to the biologist recently to see if they started again after COVID shut the world down. If you are looking to fish for walleye in AZ especially close to Phoenix call the biologist to see if they started the program back up. The only lake I know that you have a fair shot to catch walleye in AZ is upper lake Mary by Flagstaff. I have boated some very large females right after ice out up there. Too small of a lake and way too many people on it for me to put much effort into it once it warms up. You wouldn’t believe how many kayaks and SUPs go out on that lake. Impossible to even make one pass trolling without having to make massive steering corrections to avoid them. A ton of shore fisherman as well which also makes it hard to fish where the fish are.
With the color conversation for walleye chartreuse, purple, silvers, whites, pinks, and golds are my color choices in that order. You can never go wrong starting out with chartreuse. If I had to pick on color to fish with for the rest of my life it would be firetiger

Colorado uses triploids on the west slope, keeps USFW happy. Even though the Colorado river has walleyes in the system. Jimmy it is a shame what they did at Rifle. Built a 3 million dollar screen below the dam to protect the river from escapement. Then turn around and net and kill spawning females out of the lake. Those fish had survived from a single stocking back in the 80's. Rifle used to be a jewel, now a turd.

Yeah it breaks my heart. I was told that last year was the end of the netting program. They were also keeping the smallmouth and northerns that got caught.

They didnt get them all and i totally agree that it is a shame. Problem with Colorado is they manage for trout which leaves warm water guys scratching there heads

yeah hard to figure out. Rifle gap had perch illegally introduced. turned out that people traveled from all over to fish it, next thing you know the CPW puts a limit on the Illegal fish?? West slope needs more warm water fishing, I hear from local biologist Ridgeway will be getting triploids this year. I will believe when I see it!!

fished the gap a ton last year for the few months you could caught lots of the triploids which was fun for sure wish they would leave the northers and walleyes alone they are my favorite

Can’t resist telling this one! Hopefully my fishing buddy’s sees this one . We were Fishing Lees Ferry back in early 80’s. Crystal clear water we used to sight fish for big Rainbows, my buddy shouts to me as he takes one hand off his rod and points and shouts look at the size of this rainbow. Well it was chasing his jig it hits it so hard he releases his rod right into the river. Probably $150 custom built set up (a lot of money for us back then) I look at him in disbelief it appeared he just threw it at the fish!
Then the fish starts jumping and I look in the water and I can see the rod bouncing along the bottom, I yelled at him to start the motor and match the current as I directed him over it, it got stuck in some moss, I reeled jig to tip and leaned over the boat stuck my whole arm in and caught the line, then the tip of the rod and pulled it up. Then I felt a pull on on the line, I almost dropped it again! The fish was still hooked I handed the rod to him and he landed the fish and got his rod back!
Here is the rainbow he got! ( about 8lbs + as I recall ) He unhooked it quickly laid it on the seat snapped a pic and let it go, then he sat down in disbelief of what just happened! The jig laying in background.
All the lost rod stories bring back memories. On the next trip, 3 brothers we fished with decided they were handicapped by their bad equipment. So they asked me to build them rods and match them up with same reels we used (Cardinal 3 Great reels back in the day) so they show up this trip all excited to try them out. One brother motors up to spot to start drift fishing, other brother in haste to make first cast jumps up casts out, other brother goes to stand up loses balance bumps other brother he loses balance falls down his hand strikes the side of the boat and rod flies into river. Other brother falls right onto his rod and snaps it right in half!!
The third brother was the only one that got to fish his new outfit that trip . He guarded it and would not let the others touch it!
I had to build two more rods and sell the one brother another reel. I felt so bad for them I gave them a big deal on the replacements. TRUE STORY! Those 3 were a hoot I could tell so many stories on them ! One trip they burnt their tent down, another trip no tent and….,I’ll stop!

Multiple reasons, here are few that I can think of:
Triploids do not expend energy toward gonad production and grow faster.
When stocking triploids you control the number of fish and keep the density of fish near where there are the maximum number available to catch, but to they still maintain good growth rates.
Since they are sterile, triploids cannot establish a population that gets out of the control of fish management.
They also cannot establish a new population if they are moved around by bucket biologists.
And they cannot hybridize with native species....

Looking at his list, do we see anything that stands out in regards to Lake Powell walleye?
You know, stuff like slow growth rates, population density, out of control populations, up / down stream migration issues.....
