Mildog, just quoting what I read but that was several weeks ago on the lake levels rising 20ft. A sixty foot rise or more in the lake would be wonderful. I fish the north end of the lake in the spring and Halls Crossing and Bullfrog were closed. I know there is a ramp open now at Bullfrog but it did not open until later I believe in May. I spend my summers in SE Alaska on my boat and bring home several hundred pounds of fish. Really no need to catch anymore fish at Lake Powell is the only reason I missed out.

Got ya , I spend a week or 10 days in AK every year also. Love it !! We bring back lots of halibut, just a little salmon I actually prefer kokanee . We get lots of kokes when not at powell. I like eating powell
Fish too but love fishing and spending time on the Great Lake!! Launching was a bit challenging and at times limited, the fishing was great! That 20 foot estimate must have been months ago, Snow Water levels are off the chart and it’s still coming and projected colder wetter for a few more weeks. Soils are more saturated than in past years as well. The Release plans in place if they stick to them, are pointing to excellent lake level rise this year for sure. It will be great for the lake and all of the people who enjoy recreating on it!
 
The Gill Netting @ Yellowstone Lake is funded by Trout unlimited @ other contributers-- The Feds originally planted Lakers in Lewis Lake & others in the early 1900's. Lewis Lake is only a few miles from Yellowstone Lake--I am surprised it took so many years for them to show up there-- It is a good example of what "bucket bioligists" can do to a fisheries.

Yuba still has a long way to go. I'm hopeful, but it's currently sitting at only 24%, and Piute is only at 42%. I'm pretty sure we'll get Piute full, but I think Yuba will top out around 80%.

PBH, let’s make a deal!
Instead of Yuba being 100% this year then 24% for the next few years after how about we go 80% for the next half decade at least.
I really miss those 14” Perch.

Thanks man. I probably like the taste of perch better then Crappie. I all ways thought the ones out of Mill medow back when I fished those lake's, were the best tasting. But those were giant's out of Yuba, like the Bluegill out of Pelican were. I was getting those Perch in 50' of water on 3/8 oz jig head and a whole crawler back then. When I think about that, and how big those mouths were on those 15" Perch to take all of that, I have to smile😊

I read about Yuba 30 something years ago to long to remember. They were having a Walleye tourny, and I went a day before it started and guys were pre fishing. I was watching and wasn't shy to ask questions to any one that would talk to me. There were several that helped me, and I went back the next weekend with bottom bouncers, and had never used them. I caught a lot of big Walleye, and can't remember what the length limit was, but what ever it was I think you could only keep one over that. And I was fishing for food not just fun. And had to throw them back. So I started fishing for those big Perch. The guy I was with had given up, and was litterally sleeping, when I found them in 50 ft of water on the bottom. They were throwing up several 2" perch when you would bring them out of that deep water. My friend came alive when he saw those 15" perch. We were use to catching the fish lake perch, and you know how small they are. We anchored up and caught our limits of them. When we were leaving, a guy ask us if we wanted some perch, and he gave us one that was 1.8 lb the biggest that we weighed. But the ones we caught were 15" and 1.5 lb. Deer creek's were close when we started fishing it, probably a pound, but not as big as Yuba. At least what we caught weren't.

Man I'm hungry for perch now😂

The clinics you refer to had much less to do with the cycles that yuba has gone thru with low water high water no water at all. Western reservoirs are susceptible to unstable habitat conditions that are not conducive to stable fisheries. Add to that bucket brigade and other factors that introduce species that may conflict with each other. Most of the time fishing pressure is not the reason a fishery deteriorates. Yuba was a great fishery for many years after those clinics were held. I fished it years before and after. Some of the best walkeye fishing I ever had was below yuba it disappeared and it had nothing to do with angling pressure. I’m pretty confident that yuba didn’t crash due to the word getting out! It took many years and variables before it went away. From

pressure is rarely a factor on perch populations extreme swings in water levels and spawning habitat are major factors.
Deer Creek had great perch fishing for jumbo perch for a number of years , then low water with no covered vegetation for years in a row reduced the spawn and explosion of smallmouth and walleye it crashed.
I fished yuba from 1975 on and saw many ups and downs I remember many times when ice fishing it we never saw another angler. I’ve seen so many fisheries in and around this state that were fantastic crash and I’m not sure any one of them was from angling pressure. Too many to list here.

Also I think of all sites where people share and help Others enjoy fishing it’s a bit ironic to say don’t let the word out!

Devils Lake is an incredible fishery. Went to the University of North Dakota. I spent a lot of time chasing walleye and perch out there. Brutal weather is often an understatement for that area! How thick was the ice?

Headed up there for Father's Day weekend with my boy to meet some college buddies and their kiddos. Super excited!

I Youtubed Devils lake ice fishing for Crappie, and those are some slabs all so. Its over 1100 miles from here, but would be a great bucket list trip for Crappie and perch for sure.

Ice thickness 30 ish. Bad layer of slush on top of ice and covered with 15 inches of snow on top of that.

the slush monster sucks! did you hire the perch patrol or DYI? I grew up in Jamestown, been to the lake a few times, awesome lake but winter much to brutal anymore....
