BULLFROG RAMP CONDITIONS

Has anyone been launching on the left side of the main Bullfrog ramp. The last I heard the courtesy dock was located just East of main ramp. Sq

In 2005 I'm sure we launched there and the water level was about 3560 when we did it. I don't remember much about it other than we got it done without destroying anything and had a good, but strange at that lake level, trip. I haven't heard anything about the courtesy dock.

I thought NPS stopped allowing launching from Hobie Cat a few years back, claiming ANS/AIS concerns......

Did they move one of the courtesy docks to the Exec ramp? It's been missing for the last several years.

The HUGE problem with more people launching from the Exec ramp is parking. There isn't any. And the shuttle is anything but reliable - even on the busy holiday weekends.
One way to solve the parking problem, may be to drive your vehicle and trailer to the main parking lot, meanwhile boat over to the main ramp to pick up your vehicle driver. If they would leave a dock at the main ramp, this could alleviate a lot of the back up at the Exec services ramp

This is why I am going to halls. It is 30 minutes longer from Hanksville, but will be worth it this spring.
They are working on the ramp in Hall's also. They looked to have at least provided a small courtesy dock but it is one way traffic on this ramp and will not be a whole lot of fun if everyone heads there trust me...lol. Mountains here in Colorado just added some good snowpack this past couple weeks... Pray for water !

Was at BF this past weekend -- In reference to launching on the left side of the ramp -- I also remember doing that back in 2005 or so -- There was a old blacktop road on that side of the ramp -- not sure where it lead -- That blacktop is now out of the water -- unless a portion of it is under mud etc.. but it looks nasty and soft at this point

The Executive services ramp looks like it could accommodate three well position trucks/boats but tight - that assumes that the ferry isn't there thought the ferry ramp is off to the side

Access to the Executive services covered slips has totally changed -- You actually walk down a short ramp to the dock and then the store is right in front of you -- They did a lot of dirt work -- I'll post pics when I have a chance

Well, I guess that settles it. North end of the Lake is nothing but trouble, not worth it. I hope, for their sake (obviously), as many people AS POSSIBLE head down to the South end and enjoy smooth sailing and care free vacations. Maybe some Wordlings could bite the bullet and stick around to help hold the fort down on the north end, though.
Not necessarily smooth sailing on the southend either...Antelope closed and the longest lines imaginable at Wahweap launch ramp.. I got a whiff of sarcasm Skibum.

I’m headed to the Page AZ area next week. Is Wahweap the only launching option? Gonna’ hit it mid-week, so hopefully it’s not too busy. I’ve never been there before, so, please excuse my ignorant questions: 1) What’s the best launching option? 2) What’s the launching fee? Do they take credit cards and if not, how/where do you pay? 3) Is there a required inspection before launching and after loading your boat!? 4) Does the launch have limited hours of use? I’m guessing that all of the above is probably posted at the landing, but knowing in advance always makes things easier. Thanks for any/all replies! - John

3. Yes and yes there is. Do a search here about quagga muscles. You have to take an online course $20 and print out the completion of course and have it on the dash of the tow vehicle.

These answers are based on you having a boat you can launch yourself.

1) The only ramp open is the main launch ramp at Wahweap.
2) There is a National Park Service (NPS) fee booth to enter the recreation area as with all national parks. Yes, they take credit cards at the NPS fee booth. There is no separate fee to launch your boat.
3) Yes on boat inspection before and after. Decontamination is available on site near the launch ramp. I don't know their hours of operation.
4) The launch ramp is open 24/7.

3/31 pix of the Bullfrog ramp, primitive ramp next to it and the courtesy dock. Then the Executive Services ramp with only 2 lanes to launch. Sq

Thanks Squirrel, it looks like we can use the primitive ramp if they allow it! Are you going to try it out first and let us know? 😏

Not this trip, just doing some work on the boat in Hanksville. I had to make the trek to Bullfrog since I was so close. It looks like the hazard off of Stanton is out of the water. Sq. P.S. we will probably see you on the 25th

When I was down to BF on Sunday -- the area to the left of the ramp sure looked soft -- What are your thoughts Mr. Squirrel ?

I didn’t launch today, so can’t tell you much. I did talk to one of the Parks Service guys and he said that area has a very gentle grade so you have to back into the water quite a ways, but said nothing about it being soft. Sq

That would be awesome if you can make it!

Here are some more pics from today. Looking at the old cut to Halls Bay and a good shot of the beach in Bullfrog Bay. Exec Services says they anticipate they will be inundated with boats using their ramp, but sounds like there is no plan to control/regulate the crowds. One houseboat launching will definitely tie up the Exec Services ramp, especially with the ferry located there. There were only a handful of carts at the slips today. The walkway is short and VERY steep leading to the slips. The next couple of months will be a zoo for boats trying to launch at Bullfrog, and finding suitable shore camping promises to be a challenge.
