BULLFROG RAMP CONDITIONS

Does this help?

No. They are asking about the Executive Services Ramp, which is not on the list. In 2019, we launched at the Bullfrog main ramp when it was around 3,569. They were working on the concrete ramp at the time. But it was very easy to launch a 17' boat off the sloping rocks just down from the big round rock that is off to the side of the concrete ramp.

I’ll start; I don’t believe that they removed the old coffer dam during the low water 2 years ago. That is what makes the ramp unusable before the water reaches the end of the concrete. Sq
They actually did try to flatten out what was left of the damn. There is still enough of it left that it will not be usable soon. Big rocks and a hump were still there when I went down to look at it when water was low.

Took this pic the end of April 2019.... Water level was 3569

Shows the old coffer dam- a few days later they "smoothed" this out a little with a track hoe.

Pray for snow!

Thanks for sharing that. It sounds like there is a discrepancy between about 3570 and 3550 for usable levels. For people who have used the main BF ramp at 3550, was that by going off to the left side of this photo (to the south of the concrete ramp)? Or was that using the concrete ramp? If the level in this photo is in fact 3569, the concrete ramp looks unusable.

According to the water database info, the BF concrete ramp is unusable below 3576, which seems to jive with the @SKEETER photo and level.

@Dave I. Do you have any info or have you heard anything on status of the concrete ramp or possible plans for work to lengthen it?

The pics are from April 25th/26th 2019... the main ramp had been closed for a few weeks- but some were launching from the dirt on the left.. it was quite shallow and you had to back into the lake 10 - 12 yards past your front bumper to get enough water to lift your boat off the trailer.

I used the executive ramp... however, only one or two boats could use it at a time and if you hit it at the wrong time and a house boat was in the way then you had a LONG wait. (also about a mile walk to parking)

I have not heard anything. At the current snowpack, I have a feeling everything will be redirected to the executive ramp this year.

It was off to the left of the concrete ramp (looking down) you had to back in at an angle to hit the deepest part. In the pic above you can see the tracks to the left in the dirt and that is approximately the route we used back then.

Squirrel i was down at Lake powell 2 years ago I had read your report about the whale of a rock at stranton . I launched at the executive ramp but I fished Bull Frog for 3 days . I seen them digging out the ferry ramp with about 2 dump trucks digging and a back hoe . When I left the equipment was over on the main ramp. I didnt go down and see it for myself but they should have dug it out. The thing is the way the water is dropping 2 feet every 14 days it wont be long before there is no water at the end of the ramp.
Also I launched at Stranton 7 times this year ,last on Thanks giving . I dont think I could launch there now. I drove by the Hobie Cat they have signs out No Launch , I could for sure launch there .
Do you guys anticipate losing a foot a week until May?

I would imagine so.... I was snowmobiling on the Grand Mesa last week and the snow was all sugar with no bottom to it. Unless we get some heavy wet snow soon its not looking great.
Yeah, I'm in SW WY, we have nothing in the valleys and very little in the mountains so far...

Yes going to the left side of the main ramp.

I thought NPS stopped allowing launching from Hobie Cat a few years back, claiming ANS/AIS concerns......

Did they move one of the courtesy docks to the Exec ramp? It's been missing for the last several years.

The HUGE problem with more people launching from the Exec ramp is parking. There isn't any. And the shuttle is anything but reliable - even on the busy holiday weekends.
When we've had to launch from the Exec Service Ramp. The truck and trailer drive over to the main bullfrog parking and the boat picks them up there. Now that assumes that there is a courtesy dock of some sort, or the person parking the tow vehicle is willing to get wet. Not ideal, but it does help with the parking situation at Exec Services. Since insurance drove me to a slip at Halls, we'll probably drive to Halls as long as the ramp there is usable.

Seems like we need to start lobbying now to have a ramps at both marinas built for the new normal water level.

Thanks for that info, that is probably a better solution to parking if using the exec ramp. Now if I can just remember that! 😁

I have a nagging question, when the sign says closed at the top of the ramp do you go around it to unload on the ridge to the side of the ramp? It looks like you could chase that ridge out for a while after the ramp is closed.

When the NPS closed the ramp last time, we was told to launch and park at the executive ramp. So, we did just that, only to find out later everyone was given tickets for parking over there. So, to answer your question, yes you could physically off load on the ridge, but run the risk off getting a ticket regardless what you do. The NPS brass doesn’t always communicate well with their law enforcement.
