What's the most interesting non-fish catch you have made?

i know this doesn't quite fit the criteria of catching but it sure was odd to experience.

sitting in the outflow of a small stream to Lake Superior one summer i had a school of smelt decide i was the white bread they always were waiting for... the small ones tickled, the bigger ones actually hurt a bit.

Fly fishing on the Weber river several years ago i caught a prosthetic leg. A really nice very, very expensive prosthetic leg. Brought it home cleaned it up and after several calls to the manufacture and doctors and prosthetic stores the leg was reunited with its owner. Only took a day.
That's too funny, you did the right thing. I think I would have been tempted to make a lamp out of that leg!

It was a mystery that need solving. got some great responses from the people I called. When I called the manufacturer I told the girl I thought I had one of her legs. She said no I've got both of mine! That's how the whole process went.

I'm also a member of the "I Caught a Pelican" club as I caught one while fishing off Santa Barbara back in the 90s. Back when I lived in Yuma I caught several bullfrogs bass fishing, mostly on spinnerbaits. My dad once caught a huge salamander out of the Current River in Missouri. My grandfather who was with him at the time thought he'd caught an alligator. I've known several people who have caught huge snapping turtles, but I was never "fortunate" enough to catch one of those. :)

I lived in Yuma from July, 1975 through November, 1976. I was a sports writer and outdoor editor of the Yuma Daily Sun. It was my first job out of college. I moved way out there from Missouri. What a shock! When I got to Gila Bend I almost turned around and went home! The man who hired me in Yuma left shortly after I got there, and a year and a half later he hired me to be the sports editor of the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff. You talk about a total change! I got out of professional journalism a couple years later and ended up handling insurance claims for State Farm. Nevertheless, I remember my Yuma days thoroughly. I will say this. The largemouth bass fishing and dove hunting there were outstanding back then. They gave me a lot to write about for the outdoor page! :)

In 2015 we took an old friend on a houseboat trip to Good Hope Bay for his 90th birthday. He and I were trolling for walleye across from the mouth of seven mile canyon. I caught a nice one and while landing it his bottom bouncer pulled his brand new pole overboard. Of course it was my fault since I caught the fish. He groused about it for the whole day. The next day he fished with someone else and I took another friend out. We decided to troll for walleye by seven mile canyon again, since we were catching a lot of fish there. About mid day my friend got snagged, so we stopped to get him loose. The snag kept pulling, but he could reel it in. When his worm harness broke the surface the snag turned out to be a piece of monofilament. We reeled it in and started pulling in the line. Up came our old friends new pole. His rig was missing but the pole was fine. We waited until dinner to give our friend back his pole. Not a dry eye when he got it back.
