What's the most interesting non-fish catch you have made?

I was teaching my 8 year old grand daughter to cast at an apartment swimming pool. There was only one other person there, woman sun bathing across the pool. When the grand daughter made her second cast it was "nothing but net" into the lady's glass of ice tea. We made an apologetic retreat to the grass area near by and continued the lesson. Chuck

When I was in high school I was fishing a farm pond that had big bass. I was casting a black and white shyster and felt a hook up. I thought I was snagged but the line was moving and throbbing. I thought I had the granddaddy of all bass. Several minutes later I beached a huge snapping turtle! I let him have the shyster.

My cousin from Ill, only had one leg, and he lost his to keep from drowning. He jumped out of the boat, and went to to the bottom, said he about drowned. His name was Dennis Bedwell, and the good leg he had was huge. I took him noodling catfish, and he took his prosthetic leg off, left it in the truck, and hopped around like I had never seen anyone hop on one leg in rock's. He later had a catfish take him right out of a hole. HIs new one was titanium, so it was probably expensive to.

Thank's for your story, it brought back those memory's, I will see if I can find the picture, and post it of that trip.
I'm hunting for the picture too. this one was titanium as well and had microcircuits to help it move.

Great thread!! My most sketchy catch was a handgun from the Kenai River outside Soldotna, AK. Contacted the police and they kinda acted like that happens every day .. so I guess a gun discarded in the river is no big deal ha ha . Second worst was a chocolate lab on lake of the ozarks that leapt from a dock onto my wiggle wart as soon as it hit the water and got the rear treble buried in its mouth, luckily I was able to call the dog over to my boat and hoist him up and perform some quick surgery pushing the barb through and clipping the hook , in true lab fashion he remained happy and calm and wagging his tail through the whole experience...

Oh yeah.. one more classic I caught me an Argentine tourist on my backcast with a 10 weight and a big streamer off the beach in southeast Florida, luckily I caught her cardigan and not skin.. she laughed about it which made me feel a little better, it’s a sickening feeling to get hung up on your backcast when you know there is nothing but one hundred yards of sand behind you ... that was the last time I ever forgot to look behind me fly fishing off the beach...

I also caught a bat fly fishing in Montana, but my favorite odd thing was getting told by Tom Osborn ( Nebraska Football Coach) to get the hell out of his spot at lake Ogallala. Right below lake McConaugh in Nebraska. Guess the US Senate didn’t like to share.

I've lost a heck of a lot more to the lake than we have caught (rods / reels, phone, expensive umbrella rig, etc, etc). I think the best we have caught was an empty beer can......

Lassoed a swallow on San Juan. They were so thick one winter day eating midges off the water I had to spook them to cast a fly.

I was sailing back from Bermuda when the wind died down and we were only making trolling speed through the water. So we decided to fish. In a hour or so the wind picked up and brought the fishing rig to the water surface. We were busy adjusting sails when we noticed a seagull flapping around at the end of the line. We had to reel in the very unhappy bird and net it into the cockpit. It took three crew to hold the restless seagull and get the hook out. Once done we tossed it back into the water. It floated on the water for a minute then flew off.

Any attention is good attention to a Lab!

I was fishing with my brother-in-law trying for stripers in the back of Navajo Canyon. On the way back out we sped past the double islands and ran right into a striper boil. We shut down the engine, grabbed our fishing rods and cast to the boil. I was the last one to jump up and cast and my rod and my B-I-L were too close together. I ended up catching an OB-GYN in the head with a surface lure. The stripers got away and then I had to do a head surgery on the Dr. Luckily it all came out just right and we continued fishing

A second more weird experience I had was on Current Creek. I had been trying to get a fish to rise close to the bank and was successful in hooking a 14 -15 inch trout that made a run up stream. Then there was a big splash when a river otter dove in and grabbed my fish. I pulled on the fish and the otter went across the stream and up on the grassy bank where my tippet broke and he disappeared over the knoll to my left. While I was amazed at what just happened, it was nothing compared to what came next.

I heard a deep growling from behind the knoll, then the otter came back with the fish in it’s mouth and a black bear on its tail. One swipe and the fish was released and the otter dove in the stream. The bear picked up the fish, and look at me as if to say “you got anything you want to say”.

l slowly backed out of the stream and left the area, grateful to have only lost my fly and the fish.

black bear brown pants!

lucky as scalp wounds can get so bloody!

First(and maybe last trip)of 2020 season, two weeks ago caught a pair of sunglasses trolling at the end of forbidding canyon, what are the odds?

I got me a very nice anchor one day.. the water was super clear and we could see it 30 feet down so I sent my anchor down to hook the rope. it was hooked on a tree root so I had to tie up to my boat and rip it out of there...

I was fishing for walleye in th early spring on the Provo River when I was in college and was up to my hips without waders. A guy walked up on the bank and said " I wouldn't do that for a hundred dollars." On my next cast I snagged a five dollar bill floating down the river. So I said "well would you do it for five dollars "? He muttered something and walked off. Bought groceries with it.
