Weird happenings at Powell

I think my families first trip was back in 78 or 79. Lots of stories, some funnier than others.

We used to camp in Slick Rock, down below the ruins. I remember one time we were there in the early 80's, and a group was dropped off by a pretty big cruiser to go look at the ruins. They were going to swim back to the boat, but one guy didn't want to get his watch wet, so he decided to throw it to the boat.

Well, you guessed it, his aim was bad, and in the drink it went. So, they spent the next 20 + minutes diving down trying to find it. Surprise, surprise, they did. But that isn't the funny part. That was the fact that the guy that found it, puts it on his wrist, and proceeds to swim to the boat one handed - with the arm with the watch on it high out of the water. Of course you wouldn't want to get it wet after it has spent that much time in the lake......

Another time we were in that same spot, and a group of Boy Scouts were observing the sites, one boat following the other. The front boat stopped, the back boat didn't see it. They collided (no one was hurt). The front boat was smaller (maybe 16'-18'), it sank on the spot. They piled everyone into the back boat, and drove it up onto the shore, where it sank.

So we had probably 20 people that we were tending to. Dad took one of the Scout leaders and a couple of the boys in our boat up the Escalante where the Scouts houseboat was moored. Dad learned that those were boat #3 and #4 that were wrecked that week.

The first one was lost on the trip down to the lake. Apparently as they were driving on the highway, the trailer came uncoupled from the tow vehicle, and that boat was lost. Boat #2 was lost in the marina when it had an electrical problem and caught fire.

That would be a terrible trip.

The most ironic part was that dad said after he learned the fate of the other two boats, he overheard a few of the Scouts discussing if they could still use a 5th boat that was there for water sports.

I think I would be heading home after the loss of the first boat.....

Bart, yeah that's the one . How did you get that to copy, you showoff. It's really weird, because I did it with my last Dell that crashed, but couldn't do it with this HP laptop...
Sq, I'll have to check on Goldie, and I checked my Bro's Add., and he was headed to his mailbox. Also if you check that cargo trailer to the left side of the pic Bart posted, Soucie is holed up in there, plainly visible on the site, where you can move around on the lot. Crazy:D
