Wake Boat Rant....

Ihave found that jet skiers are just as bad if not worse. Jets put off a tremendous wake even at lower speeds if you are parked in a narrow end of a canyon. Boaters will generally reduce speed when they see another boat anchored or beached. Not so jets.
I find the worst violations when you have a dive flag out for scuba or snorkeling. Apparently, most boaters/skiers have no idea as to what that red flag w/ white stripe means or the regulations that are attached to them. Some close calls.

I've seen very few surf boats, mostly this year it's all new miniature yachts with a tower on top........

Ryan, have you seen the real go fast offshore boats , like a 36' Cigarette, putting our a 15" wake at 55mph ???

The South end is loaded with surf boats. I would say 60% of the small boats I saw last week were surf boats, that's not including PWCs. But I have seen more of the 'mini' yachts the last couple of years.Screenshot_20200802-180040_resize_9.jpg

I absolutely hate the surf boats. I used to think that they were just totally self absorbed. Now I don’t think actually understand the havoc that they wreak. I just walk in from the Flaming Gorge and yesterday I had one buzz me so close that it dumped water in to my thunder jet Luxor and and sent my little girl flying. My boat has 36 inch sides. My little 4 year old girl saved that dude an *** whipping. I am really surprised that no one has been shot yet. I am willing to bet as they become more common that we are going to have some boater rage.

If I ever see that, I am hitting spot lock and enjoying the show.

I think a lot of incidents are associated with distracted driving. Distracted driving is proven fatal in motor vehicles but essentially encouraged in surf/wake/party boats. Usually there is at least six people on those boats, usually more, there is usually music cranked up so loud no one within a half mile can think, there is someone or multiple people being pulled on something, and those are just the usual, common distractions. Throw in inexperience, young people driving, no requirements, and for some reason there is a general idea that boats are much safer than cars, etc, etc and it’s a recipe for all these incidents to keep happening. I would suppose that the only rule a good average of these boaters know is the orange flag one when someone is in the water...

Wakeboard boat wakes are a problem everywhere. My brother lives on one of the Finger Lakes in New York State and complains that the wakes are eroding his shale beach. No solution yet.
We have our houseboat on a slip at Wahweap Marina and I used to think it was the tour boats that were causing the boats to rock in the slip but since there are no tour boats because of the Covid-19 virus, it has to be the wakes from the wakeboard boats.

Not a fan at all, but I must admit in the absence of the Tour boat wakes and on a calm day, they seem to have helped our Striper bite. Of course I would never tell them that they were helping. Most of ‘em are pretty decent and responsible, but there are always one or two that Push it.

I am thrilled to see people out enjoying the lake, getting away from their computers, and getting some fresh air with their families. I don't feel the need to get divisive based on what kind of boat they have.
I completely agree with this. Having upgraded from a stern drive to an inboard surf boat this year has made me realize that it is hard to anticipate how far that wave can carry sometimes. It is more about the courtesy other boaters show one another and anticipating where people need to go and the impact your will have on them. Most boaters seem to be good, but there are still enough that are not that it gets aggravating. A boat license course would go a long way toward helping the situation.

Education about divers and dive flags would be so helpful. Might be worth its own thread.

You need to come out with me one day an experience the fun of the surf boats. There is a wonderful word called sharing. If your fun prevents others from having fun and possibly puts them in dangerous situations, that is not sharing a resource. That is a group of individuals being inconsiderate.
Here is all that I am asking for, If you find this being divisive, please let me see that perspective.
1. Watch where you are going and quit focusing on the girls breast next to you.
2. Follow the state boating laws. Especially, the one that says you need to maintain a minium distance of 150 ft from other boats unless traveling at a wakeless speed. If I can admire you daughters camel toe you are to close.
3. Having a towel party wiping down your precious boat10 feet from the water at the boat ramp, when there are several other boats needing to pull out is just rude.

If these three request could be met I would have nothing to complain about. I don’t think asking for common courtesy and respect is divisive

I have similar complaints about old guys driving Lunds who can’t seem to remember how to trim their Lunds cruising through the canyons.
