They could use another dock at Bullfrog's main ramp

BTW, I never got a response from the NPS about the dock issue. I did get a reply when I sent them a message about the Webcams stuck on the same pictures and not updating a couple weeks ago. Sq
 
Anytime we go to the lake, we try to avoid using a spot on a dock. We usually beach the boat somewhere around the launch area while I make the long trek up the launch ramp. We started doing this when we realized how quickly the docks can get crowded and just seems a lot less stressful.
 
If the projections are close, BoR estimates another 20' Drop by April, so I doubt two docks are going to feasible. Current location will be high and dry. Last week when I went over the old cofferdam it was only 6' at one spot. So will be interesting. BoR estimates low at 3565 in April. BoR Link Page 17

Soon. I don't know what that number would be but I drove down to ramp yesterday and its still dropping. Not sure with the shutdown if it will be moved. Boat may have to use the north ferry ramp to launch soon. Either way I'd be careful if anyone launches from main launch ramp going forward.
 
If you go back to the original WW webpage and look up the launch ramps, Bullfrog's minimum safe level is listed as 3570' elevation. Hall's minimum is 3550' elevation with a cliff to prove it.
Seeing how the current elevation is 3580', there is still 10' to go which probably equals out to about 30' - 40' worth of launch ramp left.
A few years back, we were below the minimum (I believe) for a short period of time where the launching area was diverted around the rock formation to a solid area on the other side. Not convenient, but still useable.
Like it was said, there is always the ramp over by the houseboats at Bullfrog. Don't know what the safe minimum is on that one though. That one is steeper and we like it better for launching our pontoon.
It's obvious Powell will probably never fill up again, but it would be nice to at least keep enough water in her to stay clear of the minimum levels on these launch ramps, instead of relocation of beaches down the Colorado as an experiment.

Seems to me if they moved the current dock to the west a bit, it would allow access to both sides of the dock which would cost nothing and allow access on both sides. I don't think it would impede launching and would definitely improve loading. This may not be the case at current lake levels but I believe would work well in the spring/summer.

Dave, you're correct.

Nothing Official until NPS makes statement(/if they do) on this, but they are working to get the Old Highway/Rock formation on south side as another option to launch. Mother nature and how much water we end up will be factors going forward.

I haven't looked to see if BoR has updated lake level projections after this last couple rounds of storms and snow.

The old old cofferdam is coming out of the water, and creating a hazard. If you look down from the south side of the ramp you can see the outline from the old cofferdam it might be okay for small vessels but anything with much draft is looking for trouble if they opened it up.
 
As of this past Thursday, yes it was still closed. probably will be until water level comes up. The launch ramp next to the houseboats is still accessible and open. Starting to see a few boats but his snow storm is slowing things down
 
Thanks for the replies. I have launched out of and camped around Bullfrog probably 25 times in the past 12 years (my first time at LP was 2007). I will admit I have no idea where the "Executive Services Dock" is! We usually just arrive, prep the boat, launch and head out away from the Marina.....

Just looked at google earth, I think I know now...

If you mean moving the dock so it's in the middle of the ramp I don't think that's possible. They have a cable that runs down the side of the ramp that anchors the dock to the land as well as the cable from the end of the dock anchoring it out in the water. If the dock were in the middle of the ramp you'd have a cable running to the side of the ramp causing a hazard.

The Exec Services dock is North of the Main Ramp. If you turn right just past the visitor center, that road takes you down to it. If you've been to the dock with all the big houseboat slips, or see it, that's the Exec Services dock. Or just on the North East side of the Marina if you've not been around or in it.
