Snowpack is looking grim

At least the NW fronts are now dropping south a little more so the snowpack percent of normal is improving. Still hoping for a March miracle!

I'm surprised that today the basin has increased to 72% of average. Yes, we have received some pretty good snow lately, but that is normal for this time of year, so I thought the the percent would hover in the 60's. The storm pattern for later this week is the more typical NW flow that brings the bountiful snow to Colorado. Let's hope for more of the same for weeks to come!

My brother in law who lives just east of Brighton High School in the Salt Lake Valley got 28” at his house from this storm.

That location is about 30 miles west (crow fly) from the western edge of the Colorado River Basin, but still...

I live above Mancos Colorado in the La Plata Mountains. Took a snowmobile ride yesterday with a couple buddies up above timberline to check on the snow depth. My house is at 8000' and theres only about 5" but once you get above 10,500' the depth really increases fast. Above that, I'd say the average is 4' of snow. It's wierd layers of frozen snow and sugary stuff. That's not alot of snow for these mountains at the end of February but it's a huge improvement from a month ago. It's snowing here now and hope it keeps coming. The weather pattern has definitely broke in the last few weeks. Up til then we hadn't had any measurable moisture since September

I was at the Mammoth Ski area last weekend. Their snow report says 36 inches at the base of the mountain, and 84 inches at the top. At Canyon Lodge there was 3 inches of snow at the most, and a bit more as you went up the mountain. Many of the ski runs were closed, and they were making snow to maintain others. They may have gotten more early this week, but the Sierra snowpack is not good.

Woke up to about 1/2" of snow in Hanksville this morning. Can't see the Henry Mountains yet due to cloud cover but my guess is they got some too. Hope all the basins see the brunt of this storm this week.

Every little bit helps....but this pattern is too cold to dump much moisture. We have been getting snow, but it is so dry you can hardly tell there is anything in full shovel! Great for skiing, does not do a lot for the snowpack in terms of water however....Hopefully we will get some wet storms later as we transition to spring.

I hate skiing Mammoth in those conditions - this is the kind of conditions that caused me to catch and edge and damage my knee leading to knee surgery. What a change from last year when they were trying to find placed to get rid of too much snow - a condition I prefer ~LOL~

Another storm supposed to move in to California tomorrow. You're right about the cold - what a switch from a month ago.
