I would guess mid April to mid may depending on the weather. I don't fish Havasu but those big red ears look like alot of fun.

Lake Pleasant near Phoenix produced some monster bluegills just like those back in the years shortly after the new dam was completed tripling the size of the lake. I caught some big bluegills growing up in Missouri, but I never caught anything like I caught at Lake Pleasant circa 1993-96. I also caught the biggest redears of my life out there back then, too - nothing like the Lake Havasu monsters but some pretty darn nice ones, for sure! Unfortunately, when the "new lake" syndrome wore off those monsters seem to disappear. It was a lot of fun while it lasted! :)

They never had that parasite in them, back when it was good. After they replanted Pelican they were in them. Those pound Bluegills would take your pole out of the boat in a hurry, man they were fun.
The ladys at the post office hated June, my Dad would send me a box of 1000 Crickets. And half of them would die, and they stunk😂 but they were the best bait.

The guy that done them, was really good and his whole basement was full of mounts that he was doing. And at that time, not to many people done the pedestal mounts of the whole fish. Every room was full and had a Lake trout room a Bass room and so on. My favorite mount for sure. I want a 3 lb Crappie to mount, but would probably take measurements and pictures and let Her go. I know how rare they are in Lake Powell.

When I had that done the guy told me he had had a lot if people tell him they were 2 lb Bluegill, and he said that mine was the biggest Bluegill he had ever mounted. It was 1 oz off the Utah record. I had never caught a pound Bluegill before I came to Utah. When I started fishing Pelican in 1983 they averaged a pound. And I all ways caught them 1.5 to 1.75 every trip. Monsters for Gilligans😁. This mount spent several years in Ky, with my dad showing them off. We would catch 200 a day + on a regular basis, fishing three times a day. My dad was the king with a skulling paddle and a 12 ft Jon boat. He would never miss a lick fishing and controlling the boat, around pretty big lakes. I wouldn't even think about doing the man power now, he was a bad *** dad😁. We would throw live crickets and a Cork or Bobber as they call it here :) .

Loved the old days at pelican lake!
Fished it first time jn 1973 when I was in high school it was incredible articles in national magazines featured it for trophy bluegill, people travelled from
All over to catch those big beauties!
I caught one that weighed at 2.5 lbs
Not sure it was a certified scale but it was a monster, I had seen a news story of a 12 year old girl who had caught a near 3lb bluegill from Utah lake . So didn’t think about state record. But I had to show my neighbor a lady who loved to fish originally from texas and she always bragged about how big everything was in texas! So I put it on a platter and took it to show her and she flipped out and asked if she could have it to show her husband as they had never seen a bluegill that big! I gave it to her the next day my little brother said you gave away the state record bluegill!
I told him the story i remembered and he said well it was never verified , I called and checked and it’s just just under 2 lbs! Im
Sure it was over 2 lbs but will never know! Neighbor said it was tasty LOL
I’m also sure I filleted a few crappie records back in the 80’s used to drive into the dirt road and find a launch in the back of The San Juan and put our small Boats in and camp and fish for Lm bass and crappie no smallies then,
We had limited space and ice in our coolers so we would release many and fillet what we could. I remember measuring 19.5 inch crappies I know they were
well over the record at the time. I told one of my good customers Dr Roberts to keep one whole and get it certified and he could get a state record and the next week he did just that and had the record for many years!
Somewhere I may have an old picture in an album of some of those, way before cell phone pics!
But the memories and pics are still in my mind!!
Love Lake Powell one of the greatest places on earth!
