Lake Powell - Photos from the Early Years

Here is the last one I will share from this trip. Dad took a bunch of pictures but most are of rocks and walls that are well underwater now. This on is on the way back from the dam. You can see the painted sign guiding the way on the rock ahead . DMcView attachment 33017
Your families camera took great pictures back in 1964. They are all pretty crisp in terms of sharpness.

OK. in full disclosure I am a north ender. I have only been back to waweep once or twice since that first trip. So here comes my second trip to the lake a few years later. This one was quite a bit more adventure since the "hi way" to Halls Crossing was not much more than a Dozer track It was dirt/ gravel from Blanding onward. As I recall it was a full day from Blanding to Halls.
These are all slides my dad took with a camera he got in Germany when he was stationed there in the army. Will start with some road journey pix. The Gimmy and the homemade camper Dmc

Here is the Halls Crossing fuel dock. Who wants to head out to Blanding with the old 6X6 pulling a pup ? The 59/60??Chevy Convertible is a nice touchView attachment 33047
Great pic.......bet they were only pumping pre-mix.....maybe 40/1, this could be pre 50/1 days.... 🤣

the car is a '59 Chevy. The only year with the 'cat eyes'. '58 was a totally different car, '60 had two round taillights on each side. '59 is the classic.... ❤️

I wish I had photos, but my favorite memories of Rainbow Bridge was the square opening in the docks where all the stripers and carp were. The employees would occasionally net the dead water dogs out of the bait tank, and throw them in. The fish would go nuts. That would have been late 70's, early 80's.

Just for fun I wonder how much fuel was at the Hall’s dock and at the rainbow bridge dock?

The first time I went to Powell, it was $.75 at Wahweap and that was shockingly high. That was when I was 14 years old and I could ride my bicycle down to the gas station on the corner of our subdivision and fill a 1 gallon metal can for $.25 which I would use to mow the lawn.
