KSL: Will winter snowpack be enough to replenish Lake Powell?

The Lake is down 25 ft from this time last year, so another 35 makes a 60 ft total, which is great but at the rate we drain it ? Enjoy it while it last.

Just saying.....That does not add up. Down 25 then up 35 ? doesn't equal 60. The lake is up 15 Feet from the low point this year, so it would take 45 more feet of rise to equal a 60 foot increase this year. I hoping for that outcome or better !! Keep the runoff flowing and don't let it out any faster!

Last year at this time the Lake was 25 ft higher than it is now, so with a 60 foot total gain from today( trying to replenish the Lake) we will be 35 ft higher from this time last year. 25 + 35 = 60 ft . Just sayin.

Here we are on the North end of the lake again on May 29th. These are the hills on the left as you are coming out of Ticaboo. The left mountain still has snow on the South facing side from this last storm that rolled thru. Before any arguments rear their heads, I know this snow is nothing compared to the Colorado mountains but this much down here at this time of year is unheard of. Gotta love those spring storms. Also, the main ramp at Bullfrog is also re-opened. Now we just need summer temps!

Looks like the big bulge in the jet stream that has been causing this weird weather all across the US is going to flatten out. Much warmer temps on the way! Rivers are going to rage soon. I hope we get a few more cool wet storms to ease runoff in pulses, not go directly from winter to summer!!!

That's for sure. A gentle release is ALWAYS better than raging floods. But this late in the year, I fear that's what we will have. Living only 1/4 mile from the Fremont River (aka Dirty Devil), the massive release is on our mind.

A 60 foot increase from today would be AWESOME that would be a 75 foot increase this year. The Lake has never risen 60 feet in a single year,
Would love to see that happen !!!

I've been wondering about why the big releases from Blue the last few days. But seeing video yesterday of an incredible amount of snow up at the Animas Forks headwaters shot from a copter explained it. There are hundreds of square miles of high up snow that hasn't even begun to melt.
This was a planned release for the endangered trash fish. Blue still has a ways to go to fill. that with alot of other low reservoirs are going to eat up alot of that water.

These squawfish-pike minnow sounds like one badass fish! I would love to catch them someday.
This link is historical accounts from all over the upper Colorado basin from over 100 interviews done in 1991 about locals catching them starting in 1910,,,,These stories are awesome!

We are looking at epic snowpack in the drainage, percentages can be misleading because snow pack is usually melting fast by now so the percentages are very high. But the reality is the remaining water content in the hills is almost 4 times "normal" and over double the best year in the last seven at least.
When it finally warms if should really start to rise!!!

The water report shows that yesterday (6/9), the lake came up 1.09'. Haven't seen those kind of numbers in 8 years. And then you look at the snowpack for the Lake Powell drainage area and everywhere is still well above 100% of average. Will be a great water year.
Here in Hanksville this morning, it's still only 45 degrees when I got up so the slow release is just what the doctor ordered.

I'm starting to get hopeful that the long, forgotten Bullfrog to Halls Creek cutoff might just open up this year. That would put me under water on the level contest and I'm just fine with that. ;)
