That is awesome Chuck, I never got to meet Pete, but most of these guy's that post, I have never met, but feel like I know, as of Pete, and you. To bad we cant meet every one that we talk to on these computer's. And I would gladly take a warrior fishing any time, and actually had been thinking of that. How fishing is so mentally relaxing, and good for the mind.
Have a good one.
KyKevin
I agree!

Well, when I go, I want to say "What a way to go." And I am certain those who dug deep into the bounty's of life know what I mean.. Wish I had got to cross path with older timers that preceded me but I am content with what this lake has done for me and all those who know me because LP. Y'all R.I.P..

GC, LB and all Wordlings;
Seeing Pete on his track chair reminded me that the honoring of Pete is still going on today. As many of you will recall, he donated that track chair to an organization called Warriors and Quiet Waters. It's a fly fishing and warrior therapy 501C3 out of Bozeman, Montana that has had HUGE success with helping our wounded warriors (and their families) get back to a normal life mentally ad physically. I got the chair refurbished and to Montana in a new cargo trailer. Many of these guys (and gals) are unable to get around on the riverbanks and other trout stream trails. This track chair gets a lot of use by the warriors during their fishing and other activities. See their web site at www.warriorandquiet waters.org. The chair has a brass plaque on the seat back that says: "This chair donated by Pete Klocki: Outdoorsman-veteran-family man-patriot". My brother has been on the board of this organization for many years and he said the warriors treasure that chair!! Chuck

Yes Chuck, I recall you going through the process of getting the track chair to the Warriors and Quiet Waters. I appreciate your efforts and kindness to Pete and the veterans and to Wayneswords. You are a really good guy like many that have been hanging around this website for a very long time.

I appreciate all that participate in helping others, and going the extra mile for friends and those that we meet here for the first time. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and expertise. It really helps. Thank You.

Thanks Wayne but our admiration and gratitude for all this goes to you. You have been the inspiration for all of us getting to participate in your Lake Powell Fisheries Management Program. The web site has been the catalyst for all things fishing and playing on and around the lake. You brought us together, joining both ends of this great body of water, and have managed it so superbly that we all benefit. Lots of good folks, past and present, owe you the credit and our thanks!! Special guy!! Chuck

I second that motion!

Never a trip goes by that I don’t talk to Howard when I board the Hooligan Too. He was so knowledgeable and more importantly fun. Our boat is not the same without him. It amazes me how many people still stop bye and say hi and ask about him. When they find out he passed they always share stories of how he taught them about the lake and how to catch Striper.
If we ever had a problem with the boat he would drop everything and head down to lend a hand. He can never be replaced as a buddy or good human.

I never met Howard but had a couple of his Oatman spoons. Last trip to the lake we managed to lose the last two we had. Is anyone still making them?

You can make your own by buying a mold and melting lead. Look at Janns Netcraft website for details.
If you would rather buy them ready made, then the Fle-Fly spoon is a good option. You can get them for about $5.

This is what they look like: CS-Blue.jpg

Wayne, thanks for the information, might be fun making our own, either way them dang stripers need catching and know body seems to be fishing

I like the price on the ReAxtionlure's, they look good, the Silver Ghost, with the blade. I have a box full of Wally lure's, and Howard's Bass man special's. It's so heavy, I broke the handle off of the box. There are a lot of option's out there.

Often this time of year John Fraser (Capt. Rimrock) and I would be the only ones at the lake. For the most part the staff had all gone home with exception being one person at the office all was very quiet. This picture was taken at the end of December 2011. John was the unofficial Mayor of the Bullfrog Slips and would come down at least twice each month to run the engines, check the boat and walk the docks checking on others. often times replacing broken ropes and retying and securing boats. We had a security guard (Tom) who would come by late at night with his three foot flash light (club) walking the docks. I don’t think we realized what an asset John was and the network of friends he had. Someone told me lake families turn over every Ten years. John and Howard turned over three times. We have surly lost our share the family over the past six years.

All is good let it snow

Bassman. One of my best friends from Powell. That man can catch fish where there are no fish. LOT'S of good friends and memories made on the lake because of this site.
Thank you Wayne.

Thanks - I really appreciate all your fishing reports which give me more information about places on the lake that are far from me. It is very surprising that so many accurate reports are given after a successful trip. That really doesn't happen at most lakes. Because of the large size of this lake and due to the few anglers that actually live near the lake, each report is important to the next person that arrives. This works so very well. I thank the anglers that do the good work and I just provide a place for the reports to land and be read.

It helps me manage the fishery, because we usually have extra fish that need to be caught to keep the lake at its best. Too many fish, is not any better than not enough fish. We need healthy fish in large numbers and that happens in most years with our catch and keep program for stripers and walleye.

Right now, I am still trying to figure out how this year compares to other years when fish were in good condition. This year is unique with high shad numbers, fat stripers , walleye and bass, that it is hard to find a comparable year. This may be the most unique fishing year ever, even despite the quagga mussel infestation that could have eliminated the successful fishery.

For now, we will keep on fishing and keeping stripers and see what develops in 2020.
