Fun trip

I Enjoy your posts Kevin, you inspire us wimps who sit at home and look out the window. Now for a goofy question, you mentioned the lake being smooth as glass for your return trip, and in my mind I could see you motoring along. And I got to wondering if you ever fun both of those outboards at the same time? Would the kicker help add a mile or two to your speed? Or would it be so slow that it held you back?
I’d think that on smooth water you might be able to tell the difference

Thanks Treetop. I have never ran both, my old Honda does 26, and just keeps running😊
This trip was warm for January, you should try winter Stripers for sure.

I've never forgot putting plug in boat yet but have forgot to raise trolling motor after trolling. I knew right away something wasn't right a lot of extra drag.
I did that in October. Got onto plane with the 300hp before I notice. Just as I noticed and throttled back the kicker made a loud crunching/popping noise. Started leaking oil. Apparently the kicker was Destroyed. 9.9hp carbureted merc. The mechanic in Denver said it’s almost as expensive to fix that old motor then it is to buy new and that the 9.9 is inferior to the new 15hp EFI. So I’m saving up for a new kicker.
Boats are expensive, especially when you do stupid stuff like that. 🤦‍♂️

Ouch that had to hurt but I'm sure you'll like the new a lot more. I cussed myself and shook my head and wondered what the next brain fart would be can't remember off hand what happened but I'm sure it wasn't long:D

Years ago my first bass boat. First trip up to Coure D Alene Idaho. Fished for awhile using the Minn Kota Fortrex. Went to move to another spot and forgot to pull up the trolling motor. Took off and got on plane. Gave my wife and I a good shower of spray before I figured out the problem. Bent the shaft. Minn Kota had a local service guy working out of his garage there. Drove over he dug threw a pile of old motors and found a shaft. Repaired and back on the water that afternoon.

I’m surprised your motor didn’t pop up when you took off. I have done that more than once on my old crestliner, and it released under that much force, just dangled with the prop in the water a bit. Was a manual tilt. My new boat has power tilt, i better not forget now! I put a 9.9 Suzuki with EFI and electric start on the Ranger, it is much smoother and quieter than my old carbureted Mercury. No choke and easy cold start.
