I know this is supposed to be pics of Lake Powell, and these are not Lake Powell. But they are close enough! These are from ~1978, fishing below the dam:

If you've ever wondered why Lake Powell is a great fishery, here is the reason. These two hooligans started it all.

The man that started it all. He's to blame. The greatest angler ever.

Dale Hepworth was my boss at Lake Powell when I started working there in 1975. Fishing on the river below Glen Canyon Dam was awesome. The fish in the picture were all more than 5 pounds. Stripers really didn't take off in the lake until 1980 and later. So my early days were spent catching crappie and fishing in the river for big trout.

I made a good choice when applying for a job with UT after completing graduate school. The job, fishing, and growing a family here on Lake Powell were the best times ever. I guess that's why I can't give it up. In December 2018, I begin my 44th year at Lake Powell. Cant wait for the 50th year milestone as well![/QUOTE]

Awesome pictures! My mentor fished it when it was that good and the fish he brought home made a young boy dream about the river. By the time I made it there the fish were much smaller, our trips never compared to those pictures. Maybe we were not as good at catching the big fish either. We did take the bottom half of our outboard off on one trip though, rocks were nasty in low flow! Thanks for sharing the memories.

I have hundreds of pics from the 70's and 80's but they are all photos or slides from a Canon Ae 1.. All great quality for the time , but not great for trying to post from camera shots. I guess they can be reformatted to modern tech ???
