That was my understanding ( the blasting) as there is to steep of a drop off on the Hall side for a ramp
got to hope for the “new” primitive ramp extension off the old main bullfrog ramp
The Colorado is running at less than 12% at the San Juan is less than 10% of normal
This plain out sucks !
Correct me if I’m wrong as I haven’t seen any updates on the Bullfrog primitive extension ..the last pics I saw was that they had stopped construction due to the lake rising and the island they were chasing had water separating it from from mainland
I guess as the lake is now receding that they could re-start once dry enough but that is speculation on my part ..
Hopefully we can get some updates

Since the last photo (taken June 1st) in the attached link below, the lake has only dropped a couple of inches. So that recently dozed area between the island and mainland is still submerged.
When they were moving dirt on May 5th (1st photo in the link) the lake was nearly 2 ft lower. Until elevation starts dropping at a higher rate it may be awhile before they can resume construction of that primitive extension.
This is being done at the main ramp (that is not being used due to low water ). When we ask about it, no one says much of anything. Like the bulldozer guy is practicing! Really.

This is my question to NPS back in May and their response.
What is the NPS doing regarding work below the main launch at Bullfrog?
Should the Bullfrog North Ramp near inoperability at approximately elevation 3,425 feet, the park is preparing a temporary primitive launch ramp at Bullfrog to support boat launching and retrieval through the summer season. Additional details will be shared as they are finalized. The ramp is being designed to accommodate a range of vessel sizes, including larger boats, to the extent conditions allow.
These interim improvements are intended to maintain safe access in the near term while longer-term infrastructure projects move forward. They are consistent with broader planning efforts to ensure continued motorized access at Lake Powell under changing conditions.

The water taxi guy told my son 4 weeks ago that they wouldn't be able to launch boats in 2 weeks. I think they talk just to talk. BTW, my son is working in the Hall's Marina store now, so feel free to go in and say hi. Just don't expect him to know anything about what will happen in the future because he says they tell them about as much as they tell us.Well, that sounds more official than the opinion of the water taxi guy.

Lots of people yesterday, the end of the boat ramp (concrete) is or will be, depending on your trailer and boat and how much you need to submerge it, right at the rear wheels of the tow vehicle. There is a definite hole at the end of the concrete that a couple trucks found yesterday, but everyone was getting out fine. There was a 27ish foot Sundancer coming out and I didn't see the outcome. Wanted to, but also wanted to get on the road.
There were metal plates staged on the side of the ramp with a cone on them. Had the look of rusty thick roof metal. I am assuming these are the boiler plates ready to go in, because were definitely none down yesterday at noonish.

The ramp has a huge hole about 6 or 8' from the edge of the courtesy dock. A jerk boater removed the cone so he could launch, backed in and blew a tire! Then he had the gall to whine to attendant that he needed compensated for his tire as it was their fault.
We dropped off in it and had to four wheel to get out. Thanks to that ah several people dropped into it before we replaced the cone. This is different than the edge of the concrete, it is just a big chuck hole like thing. Just a caution to stay well away from the dock when launching or retrieving. I know that word was out before but this is a new obstacle. This was yesterday about 8 AM.

My brother was down at Bullfrog this last week . Two federal employees running the whole job . I was down on July 1st , and watch them running the fill dirt into the Bog , they got a grader stuck. They do know how to run a bulldozer. and now they have backhoe to the shore edge .

The water is now down below the concrete at the executive north ramp and on the boiler plates. I didn't get a photo, but they were pulling a couple of houseboats on Monday and people were still launching a variety of vessels.
I did hear a guy say that he and another driver both punctured a tire on the side opposite the courtesy dock, so stick to the middle lane if possible.

Pulled a 23’ boat this morning with no issue. Thw eatwr is below the start of the steel plates now
Good news on the Primitive Ramp, they are making good progress and expect to be open in 2 weeks, maybe sooner.
As we were leaving this morning we went by to try to grab a few photos and got to talk to the 2 NPS gentleman running the bulldozers. They told us the ramp will be steel plates for now (submitting a request to get preformed concrete slabs over the winter - no promises). They say the ramp is ready, they need to finish some work on the access and turn around. They also plan to have divers verify that everything post launch is clear. The ramp is exactly 2 bulldozers wide and they said it will support boats of all sizes
They also appear to be making significant progress on the walkway access to the new Bullfrog slips. They had A LOT of equipment working

Those two federal employees have done a lot this summer , that is the whole crew at Bullfrog. Its a amazing what a bulldozer can do with a good operator. I seen them last month and I thought there was no way , they would get it done. Thank you for your service.
