Can’t resist thus one. Many many years ago a group of us were fishing for perch and having a “fun” contest for perch at Deer Creek an unnamed lady angler in the group had heard about the ballon trick. She put about 6 feet of mono with a small hook into the back fin and let it go. Her husband saw the ballon and said what the “blank” you can do that!! Well all the sudden the perch attached to that balloon went into overdrive the ballon almost went under! One of the guys in a float tube started chasing it around finally got a hold of it drug it over to the boat group and handed it off the husband he pulls in a 29 inch about 10lb brown. He was so embarrassed he threw the fish back without anyone getting a picture!!
It’s in my mind to this day as he slipped that fish back in the water before anyone could capture it in film. For the younger crowd film and cameras were once used to create pictures! Then phones took over

You just remined me of something we saw in Red Canyon years ago. We were trolling around and noticed a float someone had lost and went over to pick it up. When I grabbed it there was a line attached, with a schooly striper attached to it! Guessing someone tried the same technique with a striper school!

I have the LV34--Just got this winter--I also ice fish for lakers on Flaming Gorge-- I am having trouble in deeper water(83Ft) -- I have to use 100% Gain to see my 6" jig , but there is a lot of "noise"--Could you share any advice?

Yeah Gary, I can't consistently see my jig that deep either, unless your really ripping it. I don't worry about it too much though, I know its right below me, and I can feel where the bottom is. The important thing to me is that the fish show up well and I can see how they're reacting. I'm never more than a couple inches off bottom with a jig. If we're using spoons I'll come up further in the column, and they seem to show up better on the scope. You can play with the color limit setting to clean up some of the noise, but I think it filter's out some of the weaker returns as well. Still a learning curve for me too!

A few good ones for anyone here that might be just starting to Crappie fish.These are the fish head jigs, round works fine, but I like the pearl white red eyed fish head. I have used the Yum ribbon tail Limetreuse, I like it in dirty water. The box is just hundreds of that addiction stuff

I have looked on U-Tube but haven't found any help for deeper water-- The deepest I have on there was 53FT--I bought the ice fishing Xducer to use in deeper water-- One thing I haven't done yet is to use the split screen to use both at the same time. The ice fishing guides on the Gorge all seem to be using LiveScope but I haven't talked with any about this--They seem to fish shallower water-- I need to try that

My buddy has the same issues with deep water. Beyond 60-70' it gets hard to locate fish, especially when they are right on the bottom. But there have been days where he spots them suspended in deep water well away from the hole, and we move and catch them. It definitely is not the end-all tool, but sometimes it really changes a tough day into a successful one. I find that it is a great tool for your buddy to own

Bottom separation is definitely not a strong point for LS, for perch and walleye hugging the bottom I'll take my Vexilar all day. However +20# lakers show up just fine at 80' on LS!My buddy has the same issues with deep water. Beyond 60-70' it gets hard to locate fish, especially when they are right on the bottom. I learned from KYKEVIN and flipper in north wash ,find small tree,s 1/8 oz under spin chartreuse 2 " lemon meringue jig body tipped with gulp maggots 10 to 30 feet of water. on my own i have found sz 4 rapala any and a 1/8 oz chatter bait smaller than regular chatter bait ,wal mart carries them murder on stripers. its going to be crazy with all the tumble weeds and flow debris ,i like to stop and fan cast till i find them they are never alone , on 4 lb nothing fights like crappie , try to let the dark males go they protect the nest and the young . good fishing LWH .

I didn't tell a lot of people about North wash that year, and only saw one other boat the whole great time I fished it. And they had been told by a guy I told
, and had came from Bullfrog, I was putting in at the raft take out but I couldn't not share that, so the lucky one's I told, are still talking about North wash. It was some of the best fishing I have ever had, in my years at Powell. And I've had a lot of great ones.I couldn't keep that all to myself

I had a buddy and his wife that walked down the hill with float tubes in the first several years it became “separate” disconnected from the lake. They Had fantastic fishing and rarely if ever saw anyone around . He called it Jerrys lake for years they fished it quite a bit kept it pretty quiet. Killed them in there!

Well all this talk about mega 360 I decide this morning to blow another 1100 bucks. We shall see if it's worth it. Only downside is I can't put it on my Ulterra they say it's to heavy so I am thinking about how I can mount it. Maybe somehow attach it to my livescope pole. Hope it doesn't interfere with that. I did a little internet search sounds like if I keep it above the livescope I should be fine.

Take a look at this video, it helps explain the difference between Mega 360 and Mega Live and where each is most effective. Coho 975’s feedback below is good as well. The 360 is a more passive device - just watch the screen as you slowly move around, while the Mega Live needs to be pointed at the fish kind of like a flashlight. The 360 can be particularly effective at Powell looking for suspended fish in deeper water.

I usually have my Mega 360 set at 60’ range - seems to be the best for good image clarity while scanning far enough out to show you everything within a short casting range. When in open deep water I’ll go out as far as 100 ft as its pretty easy to spot fish when the bottom isn’t visible. For my Mega Live my experience is about the same as yours, I usually have the range at 60’ when scanning forward to see how the fish are reacting to my lure.

This was my best catch of Crappie up in the San Juan . . Have not been able to reproduce this again at Powell. So many Striper's I have to catch I need to learn some more about catching them. I need listen to KY Kevin. He knows how to catch'em. Will try that out next time I am there.

Great to hear from you, I remember that picture, and that has been a while. I'm going to go into the San Juan the end of April for several days, come up there and join me. I never guarantee to catch any fish, but that is the best bet on Crappie for sure, when there in to the bank. Would be a lot of fun. Good to hear from you
