David reached out to me to let me know it was heading to the north end. It was a great deal and I look forward to having Dworwood rub a little salt in our wounds with a report and pictures of just how great it is. Best of luck Dworwood, it's in good hands I'm sure.

I feel fortunate to have been able to acquire his old equipment! I also feel a little bit guilty finding out it was you and KY that were also looking at it! I plan to be there on the 21st if my plans don't get screwed up again! I have a room so I better make it and try all this high tech stuff out for the first time. It will need to get broke in up north, it has lived in the South where it is always warm and no croc's & zombies to deal with! ;) Hopefully we will catch enough to take some pictures and share them. I had to rib KY a little bit, I'm sure he will get even by showing me a full cooler of fish next time I see him.

I spoke with a friend of mine today ( who fishes alot ) that said he read a recent artical somewere that some lakes are banning life scope finders. Are they really that good?

Heres the skinny as I know it... Garmin forward facing sonar is steps ahead of Humminbird and Lowrance. So for live sonar go Garmin. As far as screen size... Go as big as you can afford there is a big difference between 9, 10, and 12 inch screens... Garmin black box and LVS34 can be wired up to 24v system which some say is a much cleaner picture. But honestly if you have dedicated power you're fine running it at 12v. The thing you need to know is that the black box and better screens will drain your power down so going lithium battery for it even if you need to dedicate a small 30Ah batter strictly for it. You need to think about where you want to mount it as well. Some guys mount it to their trolling motor however if you spot lock you will not want it mounted to the trolling motor. You can do a DIY pole mount but you will need to buy a zero degree mount for it which is another 29 bucks. In my opinion the best mount on the market is this one but its not cheap. I believe I paid nearly 400 for the mount. But its bullet proof rock solid and easy to swing into the boat and stow quickly which is key if you are tournament fishing. SeeFish Transducer Mount 2.0

I saw a guy from a marine dealer do a side by side 12v and 24 volt set up on the same boat same spot with Garmin black box then he put them on screen side by side, he thought very little if any difference it looked pretty much the same to me so I think I will do separate 12voLt battery. I have 2 12volt batteries group 27 deep cycle with battery switch and have 12 volt Minnkota terrova spot lock and a couple electric downriggers. But think separate battery still might be better and eliminate any interference.

This was an April fools joke that was going around. Only legitimate ban I'm aware of was on the Pro musky tournaments, last year, and that was midway through the trail and caused a bit of an uproar.

If it stays warm like its supposed to, and I hear the right water temps after the tournament down there, I will be there before that Dave 😁

I agree, interesting the way they run those crappie tourneys though, those fish are caught, weighed, and immediately released, from the boat, not brought back to a weigh in. The last one i saw those two fellows caught and released ~430 crappie to win it. Every one of them released unharmed back into shallow water with no possibility of barotrauma. (Probably was a few bleeders, its fishing) I don't know if they are all run this way but this seems like a great way to run one, and I am not a tourney or a derby guy.

When is the tournament? I would prefer to not be there that weekend! And you don’t need a fish finder, you have proven that, I think you speak to them and they come!😁

My friend said it was 15th and 16th or 17th, he said his friend was fishing it, but maybe some one can tell us more, that is in the know.
 
Glad to hear that was likley an April Fools joke however nothing suprises me any more. Like the plans to ban incandescent light bulb's and gas stoves. I hope to get a life scope some day but was hoping as they got more popular the prices would come down but lately I haven't really seen the prices come down on any thing. I to plan on making a trip to the big pond when the water temps are right. With what will likley be a big run off this year I will probley go south maybe up the San juan for the first time. Sure wish Dangling rope was open so one didn't have to haul so much fuel.

From what I have read, the main concern is their effectiveness on panfish. Since they are schooling fish that move around quite a bit, they used to get a break when the school would drift away, and the angler would have to re-locate the school with trial and error. Now they just point the livescope around, re-locate the fish, and get right back on them again.

And its not a level playing field for the fish that end up getting eaten and taken out of the lake 😂

Well thats exactly what I have observed fishing for Kokanees. When the school moves off they just move right back over the top of them. Almost every guide boat uses them. When the school moves off on me and the few other guys I know that dont have live scope we have to go into hunt mode to either find them again or go find another school. To me that's actualy part of the fun of fishing for Kokanees during jigging season but can be frusterating at times.
