Well said, I've been through a few times now. Once I met up with an oncoming wide body rental and it was windy. I thought, well this could be interesting but everyone has been exercising caution and showing good manners. That spot in the middle where it narrows was still one lane late last week so there is no passing someone through there. After enduring the long way around for a few years in a houseboat going 8mph it feels like a teleportation tunnel, very glad to have it back for awhile.

We stopped towing thru the cut many years ago when a seadoo rider fell off in front of our houseboat in the middle of the channel, hard to stop when you are towing something. It was pretty breezy at the time as well..............white nuckle and it took 4 Adults to save boats from going into rocks and such.

My pontoon is a literally a beater boat that I'm not worried about much and with all the drag of pontoons it stops on its own. Kinda nice to tow compared to deep V Monohulls which seem to glide on forever.

Fair question: how drunk was the rider to fall off a PWC at idle? IDK, good question I think? Sounds like a bad situation either way I've seen some pretty unbelievable stupidity through the cut though, the guy towing kids long line on a tube on a busy day in the wind took first prize! I really do try not to get upset that God didn't see fit to pass out intelligence equally but it's pretty apparent at Powell.

wave runners can be pretty unstable with two people and going slower or not moving. I don't think you have to be drunk to fall off.

I would say its a 50/50 chance someone falls off the first time two get on a waverunner while its barely moving.

the raw water impeller will get a little more wear when ingesting more solids, but I doubt you would notice unless you suck up sand or larger debris. just my 2c.

That red water peeing out of your motor is loaded with silt! I don't think 1 or 2 trips is going to do a bunch of harm to your impeller, but it isn't doing it any good either. It's time for a new impeller on my boat anyway.

I used to replace my water pump impeller every other year when I boated on the Mississippi River. After 16 years of hard use it finally blew the top cylinder from running the oil mixture to lean. It was a 115hp inline 6 mercury.

i have an idea, since the cut still low shadow with dirty water,the best way to pass that cut you guys need to turn off your gas motor and just run your trolling motor to pass that cut.instead of runs gas engine. that way yours engine will be safe.

My guess is the majority of water craft going through the cut aren't equipped with a trolling motor.

Sounds like that was the perfect time to be fishing the Warm Creek side of the cut. Sounds like that's the hot spot for slurping stripers first thing in the morning....

Now that inflows are decreasing and the lake level is starting to slowly drop, how long do you think the cut will stay passable for bigger boats like houseboats?

Both times I went through on the 4th and the 12th my rudder grabbed huge tumbleweeds it won’t be open long enough

...and on both the 4th and 12th the lake was at about 3584.5+/-. Assuming 3583 is the safe minimum for most boats (smaller ones anyway), current inflow/outflow projections suggest the lake will drop below that mark sometime on July 24 or 25.

Thanks for the input. We'll see if we can get through safely Sat or Sun w/ 70' HB, and then back next Thurs. Probably go thru 1st w/ the bass boat to see how iffy it might be. Expect it might not be a relaxing ride. If anyone has more info to share, please let me know.
