You found the shallowest spot in the Cut right away. After you pass over that shallow spot the rest of the Çut is about 1 foot deeper.

Used the cut Saturday and Sunday. 1.5 was the lowest reading we had. My pontoon made it though just fine but we witnessed several wake boats stirring up mud with their props. That was the last time ill use it this year.

Tilt the prop up, get out of the boat and pull it over the narrow shallow spot. Then put the motor back down and continue on.

Well, Doc, sadly that ain’t gonna happen. Pretty sure additional digging requires new environmental impact study, and that can take a long time to slog through the process. The current most probable lake level forecast (see USBR Operations link on WW homepage) floods the cut most of next summer.

Turning around in the cut requires guts, in my opinion.

Yep, existing NEPA documentation only covers deepening the Cut to its present level at 3580. Any lower requires some sort of subsequent NEPA document, which will take study, public input, and time.

Went thru cut on Friday morning with our 24' tritoon and saw plenty of boats using it. We also went thru Sunday morning the 23rd. Lowest my depth finder showed was 1' on Sunday and at that point I put down a fishing pole and it came out around 2-2.5' deep. I was trimmed up and even ran the electric trolling motor thru the shallowest part. It won't be long before we hear about broken/stuck boats in the cut.

Sadly, you're probably correct.

Not a fun way to start or end a LP trip.....

How much would it take for that to be made more consistent and matching the rest of the cut for depth? If it would not take that much effort anyone with a line to the powers that be could pass that along as an issue to be corrected this coming season (since it would not violate the depth of the previous studies).

That will likely depend on how the snowpack does this winter. If prospects for a long opening are good, cleaning it up before it fills again would make sense as a priority. Resources aren't abundant overall, but with all the progress on ramps the last few years, a cut cleanup would make sense if the runoff forecast is good going into the spring. If it is forecast to be dry or like this year, probably not.

You shift it into revers and back out the way you came in.
