Castle Rock Cut Filling - 2023

Sorry! I am not to able to go look at the Cut today or tomorrow. If anyone is able to walk to the middle of the Cut and take a picture for all to see, that would great. I suspect Monday might be the day that the two waters join. It also could be mid week or not at all. My next report will be Monday morning. Stay tuned!
 
I am so proud of myself. :) I chose not to go to the lake today because I was sure it would take another couple of days for the water to finally touch and cover the Castle Rock Cut. As soon as I said that the lake came up like crazy and the Cut is now WET! It is about time!

Let's hope the inflow continues in a strong fashion and the CUT quickly provides quick and easy access for those traveling uplake.
Look out fish! I am coming uplake to get you!

Thanks to all who participated in the CRC adventure.

I will be so grateful to take the quick drive through the Cut and not around through the main channel!

My next big concern is when will it open to boat traffic and how long can we maintain that quick and fuel efficient opportunity.

great pics @Neil ! It sure looks like they’re not connected in your first pic, but maybe that’s just the little “hill” covering it? Did you get to watch it connect from the sky? Now that would be awesome!

Glad to see it touching, even though I’ve never seen the cut before in my life 😂

Do you happen to have the Date and Time stamps on those picture files?

In looking closer at the 2nd picture it looks like there's really no serious obstructions anywhere along there except just a bit of restriction, but nothing that stands out as trouble.

If anyone can paddle through and find the highest spot and the depth that would be really interesting to know, but really, I see no good reason why they couldn't dredge out a 5-10 foot deeper smaller channel towards the middle to extend the access through by several weeks. Pile the stuff up along the edges... Sure it costs $ to do, but in the overall greater scheme of things it saves a lot more time for so many people that it would pay for itself. GoFundMe a Channel... Volunteer dozer operator, donated biodiesel, etc. etc.

I’m headed out on the lake on the 5th of July early in the morning. It should have 5 or 6 feet or depth by then. Would that be enough to take a houseboat through it? I know I’m only sticking dow 3 feet in the water but Ilim just wondering if I have to hug one side due to another boat coming through if im going to have problems.
 
Having traversed CRC innumerable times, but not piloting a houseboat, yes, you will encounter oncoming traffic and have to hug the right side of the channel. If no houseboats are towing boats or toys, the congestion is much easier to navigate. And, of course, windy conditions can make the challenge into a problem.

I feel really comfortable operating my houseboat, just worried more about sept her and underwater obstacles
