Bullfrog Ramp Situation

Not sure if any of us are true meteorologists or hydrologists, but I would go out on a limb and say that we (Colorado) are going to need a 12" - 14" dump of snow, twice a week, for the next 2.5 months, just to make a minor impact on our beloved Lake Powell. I have a "scouting" trip planned for March 18-21 there at Bullfrog....just to hang out, possibly rent a boat, and to see if any kind of progress is being made on this supposed ramp extension or our 1st week of May trip will be CANX'd too!

That wordsmithing is slightly different than some of the previous NPS posts, the most recent of which I think said “…..to be completed by May” vs this one that says “in May.”
Maybe it’s semantics, but I would deliberately use one over the other depending on the scenario if I were writing it.

Wow, I love the positivity emanating from this thread. We're disappointed before a shovel of dirt has even been moved. Do we honestly believe that there won't be a launch available for Memorial Day? I'm a realist, an Engineer, and worked my fair share in construction, and I don't see any reason they couldn't complete the project prior to May 30(3 months). I realize the wheels of the Fed move slowly, but once it gets into a contractors hands we should see some actual progress. Show me on the doll where the Government hurt you.

The problem is that whoever wrote the releases didn't understand contracting and that there was a contract duration contingent on the execution date of the contract. It probably took longer to execute than anticipated and the duration that they were planning on was now extended beyond their original idea. Rather than promise a hard date, they have now just said May. Should have done that from the beginning, but they want to give good news and for most of the folks here, every day there isn't a ramp available is bad news.
I think it is wise for all to check the details before heading to Lake Powell this year. Everything about launching and lake level rising is still unknown. Check before you go. RIght now the only useable ramp at Lake Powell is at Wahweap. Can you imagine how busy that will be if all Lake Powell boaters have to wait in line at one launch ramp to launch and then retrieve. Ask on WW.Net before you go!

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area continues to respond to low water conditions on Lake Powell. This week’s low water update includes:
1. Bullfrog North Ramp Extension Project: The contractor will be mobilizing and staging for the construction project during the week of March 7. This construction contract includes regrading and permanently extending the Bullfrog North Ramp to potentially reach a lake elevation of 3525 feet. (The amount of extension that is possible will be dependent on the lowest water level reached before spring runoff begins, as no construction will occur in water.) This project is anticipated to be completed May 1, 2022. Use of the ramp will be dependent on lake levels.
2. Extending the Legacy Stateline Auxiliary Ramp Continues: Houseboats are currently launching and retrieving on one lane (currently the northern most middle lane). Due to weather and supply issues, the concrete pour previously announced for this week was postponed. On February 24, 2022, boiler plates were moved to the north side of the ramp. On March 1, 2022, Aramark's contractor will pour concrete on the middle section and south side of the ramp. During construction, at least one lane will remain open with boiler plate ramp extensions until the project is completed (to target elevation 3490).

It used to say 3520 now hedging on that too. I guess they are trying to time the finish so they can work right down to water’s edge at the lowest point this spring, and then have runoff drive up lake level to make the ramp usable. Hopefully we get more than 3-4 months out of all this work, because if runoff is only 10-15 feet, and river flows stay low, those 10-15 feet will drain out by August/September.

Was just snowmobiling the Flattops and even after it snowed this week all the steel fence posts are still 12-18" out of the snow. Been riding this area since 1985 and this year is about the worst I have ever seen. I live in Silt, CO and we are extremly worried about fires this year. The long range forcast here is very dry for this time of year. Peter
