Bullfrog launching update 1/5/2022

I hate to admit this because I like to believe I have a pretty good sense of dir, but If your a north ended heading south, make sure you have a map. From MM 15 to MM30 -ish, we always tend to get lost. A wrong turn in the Padre Bay Area and you can go miles the wrong way.

Yes it's a long way to the back of Last Chance only to realize that you are not still going up lake. It is excellent fishing if you do venture in there. Binoculars also help locating the channel markers until you get used to the land marks.

The lake master maps are life savers on the lake IMHO. I have been on the south end many times but I’m sure it will look different with water levels where they are now. I will have to learn where the fish are for sure but as of today I’m not sure we have a choice!

This is how they get around beach launching In Cabo Pulmo, It would be pretty easy to make an extension with some ATV type high flotation tires on the end.

It's the Rock Creek bay, and Last chance that mess people up both going north and south. Padre is not so bad, epically with lake this low.

Thinking out loud here.... I wonder how much Bullfrog marina is charging for rental slips or short term docking considering the conditions. At this point no other boats would be launching so they have to have a lot of open spots. I wonder if someone could haggle for a few months of cheap slips and boat up from the south end. You would need someone to swing around and pick you up but you would essentially have the North end to yourself. For the right price I would consider this.

I called them a few weeks ago about slips and she told me they did not have any available which surprised me a little. They do have over night slips but she said no long term availability. Its only a three hour [less if you hurry] boat ride from Wahweap and then make bullfrog home for a few days. I agree, the North end will be lonely for a few months! What other options do we have? A loader and some 3" gravel would be a good one but I don't see that happening for a while. Maybe lay down some mats? Don't see that happening either. Does anyone have a tractor with some tow straps they could leave at the ramp for a couple of months? I don't see many options at this point. Mud is the very worst option, probably one of the few things that would stop me from trying to launch. I guess our trips will have to be longer to justify that much travel but I am looking into doing a South to North trip in the next few weeks. Maybe a few of us could do it together, two trucks South and Two trucks North? What say you @svivian ?

I have a question for those of you who leave boats in a slip at BF, how safe is the equipment you leave on the boat? I believe the North end is much better but I have no experience with that. @Ryan & @BartsPlace could probably answer that question, could I leave everything on the boat and not lose sleep over it?

I would not leave all of my stuff on my fishing boat sitting in a slip --- way to easy for someone to help themselves -- add to that the fact there will be very few people ( if any) walking around, I would not be able to sleep a night --- on the other hand, I think you could haul a lot of gear in a few of the carts when you come down -- and leave again. It would take some figuring to decide what I needed, but if I was going to leave the boat in a slip for several months, that is how I would handle.

Considering all the lakes I like to fish other than powell are frozen or not great till may, it would be nice to leave my boat down there from December to May considering I can't launch. But I'm not paying an arm and a leg for a slip that no one else can use do to current conditions. I feel like it would be a win win for myself and the marina if they can make a few bucks and I can leave my boat and enjoy the lake.

Our brand new freezer got stolen a few months ago in the halls bouy field and I talked to another guy that had his fuel tanks syphoned dry on his houseboat. So I would not call it safe up north to leave things on the boat in my opinion. Also, one of the locks on our fuel tanks was bent like someone tried to pry on it

I realize its a stretch but I'm trying a glass half full approach for the time being. My worst case scenario is a 10' inflatable with a 15hp motor and some dry bags for the long ride.

might be a great way for wordlings to meet ---
I can picture this --- 4 day trip
day 1 drive from GJ to page ( 7 hrs) -- motor to San Juan -- sleep on floor of boat ( I have done many times)
day 2 catch 100 fish by noon -- motor to bullfrog -- sleep on houseboat -
day 3 pick up several new friends-- fish rincon and other mid lake spots ( catch 100's of fish because no one will be around) head back to bullfrog to drop off guests
day 4 -- head back to san juan for a few and back to page ---- leave boat in page and drive home ( 6 hr's) ---
do it again a few weeks later

Love Cabo Pulmo! But they have nice firm sand....as we know, the muck emerging from LP can be a lot different....
