Basketball courts at Dangling Rope

This is not hard…

This is easy easy easy - just back up far enough to get outside of your shadow to allow common sense to surface.

It is called ATTRACTIVE NUISANCE - as in little 14 year old Noah getting his neck crushed when the hoop and pole falls to the ground after a heavy slam dunk triggering a nighttime helicopter response along with a convoy of ranger boats to retrieve the body and take statements.

Then papa bear hires an attorney and sues for negligence for not having the playground fenced and locked or certified to public standard. This selfish act ties up lots of rangers in court and a few hundred grand, or worse, a payout.

There were alot of people who enjoyed this little secret in silence - a midlake game of basketball especially at night, but just like all secrets, once you post them on social media then an endless line of wanna be followers descend. Think Moab Monolith…

Do not be pissed at NPS, they are covering their A$$ - if you want to be pissed then get pissed at the very irresponsible party who posted this to begin with.

And let this be a real world lesson - there are plenty of fun little spots at powell, keep your mouth shut and enjoy them.

If you are thinking of posting secrets on social media, or worse, publishing a book, then talk about things that are already known with long lines like Rainbow, and labyrinth and keep the hundreds of other treasures preserved for the future.

Shhhhhhhh….

By that logic every basketball court across the country would have its hoops cut down.

FWIW I agree with your comment about social media (which I’d give a broad definition to). But I think the other problem here is that the account on instagram was also reaching out to NPS to try to update/rebuild the courts (at no cost to NPS).

So multiple things happened to bring this to their attention. Regardless of the cause, this was a total Delta Bravo move on their part. But probably shouldn’t have been unexpected.
 
So had to look up DB in texts or social media. 😀 Apparently Dumb and variety of unflattering words. My newly minted teenage grandson is always challenging me on text shorthand. Great fun.
This morning I was telling my DW about the BB hoops coming down and other actions, or inactions, by the valedictorians at NPS. Doesn’t take but an example or two to generate head shaking or hands to the forehead.

Wait a minute!!!!! Back up. I was just going off of your initial logic. You wanted to go cutting them all down with your logic. I wasn't implying anything. Just saying that the possibility of a liability lawsuit on the basketball court at DD is actually probably happening somewhere in the US.
 
Hey friends! Been meaning to say this for a while. This is a good opportunity. We (moderators) have been trying to let conversations go on a bit longer than usual in the hopes that everyone can remain civil and debate important topics / issues. And, for the most part, I think it's working. Hats off to all of you!

There is one word that frequently gets threads closed. Maybe by knowing the word, we can avoid most future closed conversations. The word is "you." Whether it is meant or not, when the word "you" is included in a reply post, the original poster frequently reads that to mean they, themselves. So, there is often a perceived attack - even when the responding poster actually means "all of you" or "somebody" or "people" in general.

Once the first perceived attack happens, it is often followed by a corresponding retort that escalates the conflict, and eventually the moderators are forced to engage. If we can think through our language just a bit, maybe placing ourselves in the reader's shoes, I think we can avoid what I consider to be the only "negative" aspect of the forum environment (and my job as moderator).

If you are using the word "you" to address or reply to some person specifically, it will be measured against our "no personal attacks" policy.

Just some food for thought.
