Waynes Birthday and Fishing Party

Weather was cool in the morning and fishing not quite as good as it had been before the cold front. We ran up lake and found some fish resounding to trolling in Labyrinth, Face and Buoy 25. Chuck Fulton ran up to Rock Creek and found active stripers in the back. He caught the biggest striper on the day. Richard Hepworth went to the muddy water in Navajo Canyon and ran into a striper boil and quick catching of many fish. Those fishing at the dam brought in many fish and were warded many prizes for their efforts. We had over 300 hundred stripers weighed in for the birthday event. I all try to get a list of the awards and the prizes for your reference. Over all it as a great day and thinks to all for participating and staying in touch even if not able to attend the event.

I am sorry I missed it as well. We were there. I had some first time Lake Powellers and lost track of time while in Face Canyon at about 4:30. We were just sight seeing after doing a bit of fishing in the morning. Then, while at Face, I saw a few fish on the finder and we started fishing again. That's whenI remembered about the party. OOpppsss. Happy Birthday anyway Wayne.

I accept the excuse that 'fish were seen on the graph". That is the highest priority on Lake Powell and all else is secondary. Hope you caught some fish.

Birthday Bash Contest Results

We forgot to count the number of anglers but we did weigh in 176 stripers from 1 to 4 PM.

Prizes were awarded to:

Chuck Fulton for the biggest fish: 3.93 pounds

Hurly Begay, longest fish 24 inches

Ed Hanson, most fish 28

Randy Smith, smallest fish 12.5 inches and most fish for one group = 50 stripers

Bob Reed came in second place in a two categories so we award him the prize of biggest fish and longest fish by angler on a Jet Ski

These were good results as the fishing day was right in between two bad weather events. Saturday afternoon was warm and calm.

I won the biggest prize as my 5 children, who indicated they could not come, suddenly showed up at the house on Friday night. We relived old memories as we went out fishing again as a family on Saturday morning.

I had a wonderful birthday that lasted 3 days

As it turned out we did catch'em. It seemed like 1 right after the other for several minutes

Thanks for the pardon as well :)

Just curious if that was the same school that we found in the morning in Face? Please tell me what fishing technique (bait, trolling, spooning, etc) you were using and if the fish were fat and healthy. Thanks

We used anchovies and just drifted by them. We were back about 2/3 of the way to the end of Face. They appeared to be healthy, 1-2 pounds each. It was great fun for our first timers. They had never caught a striper before this weekend. Pardon the pun but, I believe they maybe hooked.

Wish I could have been there but I've been tied up with so many things here in Phoenix this winter. I thought I'd have lots of time once I retired, but that is not the case. I think I'm busier now than when I worked. I'll try and show up for Wayne's 100th birthday party! :D
