TICABOO LODGE AWARDED HITE MARINA CONCESSIONAIRE CONTRACT
Hite opens the door to exploring hard-to-reach sections of
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
TICABOO, Utah (November 6, 2018) - The National Park Service announced this week that Ticaboo Lodge was awarded the contract as the authorized concessionaire for operating the facilities at Hite, Utah. "This is the perfect fit for the growth of our North Lake Powell adventure services," said Capt. Ray Golden, Ticaboo general manager. “The contract with Hite opens the door for our adventure center to offer additional opportunities for visitors to explore hard-to-reach areas in the Orange Cliff and Muley Point sections of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, National Park Service.”

Golden further described the company’s plan with the addition of Hite, "Our plan is to convert the store into a fully stocked outfitter shop, complete with a grill for serving food, and a guide service for passer-by traffic and the tremendous influx of vacationers in the San Juan County region."

“We are extremely excited to be chosen as the concessionaire for Hite and strongly believe that all adventure-minded people will find an unmatched recreational experience on this newly renovated property,” said Ticaboo partner, Bob Mitchell. “This area represents one of the few remaining unexplored corners of the world and we take our stewardship to maintain balance between preservation and utilization very seriously,” continued Mitchell.

Lake Powell Adventures will be able to offer ATV rentals and ATV guided tours in the Orange Cliffs region giving the public access to some of the hardest to reach areas of southern Utah, which also happens to be some of the most scenic areas, as well.

In addition to ATV markets, other land-based operational plans will include canyoneering trips, guided hiking, Jeep tours, and water-based operations to include jet ski and kayak rentals and tours.

The contract begins November 1, 2018. Golden's plan is to be fully operational by January, 2019. This is a perfect opportunity for branding North Lake Powell and tying in San Juan County tourism with the tourism in Garfield County and Kane County,” Golden concluded.

NPS PRESS RELEASE

News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 7, 2018 Contacts: General Park Information: 928-608-6200 Media Inquiries Only: Mary Plumb, 928-608-6202, or 928-640-3478 (mobile) Ticaboo Investment Holdings, LLC, Awarded Hite Concessioner Contract HITE, Utah –

The National Park Service (NPS) selected Ticaboo Investment Holdings, LLC., to provide fuel, retail, RV sites, campground services and expanded land-based recreation opportunities in the Hite District of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The new concession will do business as Lake Powell Adventures. “We are excited to work with our new partner in providing new and updated visitor services and access in the Orange Cliffs and Muley Point sections of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area,” said Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Superintendent William Shott. “There is clearly a desire for different types of land based recreation and with Ticaboo Investment Holdings, we can reasonably meet this desire.” The NPS issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) in May with the intent to issue a non-competitive, three-year temporary contract to operate services at Hite. Ticaboo Investment Holdings responded to the RFEI as an interested entity. The Acting Regional Director determined Ticaboo Investment Holdings to be a qualified entity. The temporary contract will expire on October 31, 2021. Visitor services at Hite have been provided for many years by Aramark Sports and Entertainment Services, LLC, (Aramark) doing business as Lake Powell Resorts and Marina as part of its concession contract at Bullfrog and Halls Crossing. Through mutual agreement, Aramark’s contract was modified to discontinue services at Hite only, opening the opportunity for this temporary contract with expanded land-based services. More information is available on each park’s website: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area or Rainbow Bridge National Monument. -NPS

Ok, I was just at Offshore yesterday and talked to them a little more about Hite and their operations up there.

Nothing new regarding what they are planning. Guided ATV and hiking trails is going to be the main focus at first then the water toy rentals when the season hits again in the spring. I know the jet skis is the last thing us "North Lakers" want up there, but they are coming.

Housing has been a question of mine. They are starting off with renting the NPS housing up there for both the employees and guests. They are pretty nice little houses (duplexes) and there are a few that are available. Not a motel but not a mobile home either. The rent is pretty pricey from the NPS so I wouldn't expect a cheap nights stay either. I can imagine they will expand if this takes off. The spots are there, just need to be filled.

Other big news. The NPS is also requiring Offshore to maintain year round operations. That means no more shutting down for the winter like Aramark has been doing for years. This will probably make for some long days for the employees as they might see 2 people a week, but they will be open.

I'll keep ya posted as I find out more

Had one of the Hite full time employees swing in yesterday for some vehicle work and they are currently working on extending the launch ramp to the current river elevation. Their goal is to be able to have boats launching there this year and also make it much safer for the rafters to exit the river also. It won't be all concrete though, the lower portion will be gravel for now. The campground is up and running BUT, when Aramark pulled out of Hite, they also removed necessary parts for the gas pumps. There is currently no gasoline available at Hite!

There are still plans for a grill and the do have a couple 4 wheelers up there now. The plan is to be ready by the middle of January and keep expanding until they get it done. They have big plans and the 3 year contract is a great trial period.
