Swimming from Hite to the Dam

The swim will be a pretty cool accomplishment. I was skeptical at first, but looks like he's on his way.
I agree, cool accomplishment.

But then I remembered Diana Nyad. She swam from Cuba to Florida, which is 110 miles. And she did it in the ocean without stopping.

Still, swimming the length of Lake Powell is quite a task, and something I have no interest in doing. But quite a ways from other endurance swimming accomplishments.

So I motored by that guy Shane that's attempting the world record today! I knew we were going to be on the lake about the same time, we left Bullfrog at about 9:00 a.m. heading south and we saw him at mile marker 84 right across from Annie's Canyon at like 11:45 this morning. He's making great headway I heard he made 42 miles by the end of Thursday so I figured he was coming through Bullfrog on Friday, saw him today, Saturday. He was pulling that heavily laden paddle board just like the story and the videos he had a support boat but never was closer than like a hundred feet to him. Sorry the pictures are kind of far away I was trying to give him some space in the main channel. There was one houseboat that came between me and him really close cheering them on I didn't want to get that close. We we're blowing the horn and giving him huge fist pumps in the air!! So cool to see this record in progress I hope he meets or exceeds his goal! Got some video I could post later. Yes I am posting this from the lake, up Escalante, I've got starlink it was this was worth firing it up to post.

I met Shane today!! By doing some rough math I figured he was going to be just north of the Escalante after lunch today. So we headed out of the Escalante and went North. Almost gave up trying to find him but then at mile marker 72 there he was on the side with his support boat taking a break. We idled over there didn't want to bother him too much but it seemed like they were ready to get on their way. So as he swam out from shore past my boat I was able to meet him and shake his hand! There's not a nicer person on the lake right now than this guy is. Also mentioned to him that my son is at CU Boulder taking a class from one of his good friends that knows him well. We all told him how proud We were of him making this attempt. They refused water beer snacks Etc. They said they were making good time and were on Pace to do it in 10 days.

Does he only use the front crawl? What’s he doing for sunburn on his back?
These are all great questions I have no idea I would love to have stopped and chatted with him for a while but he was on a mission. I don't have Instagram (my friend here does) but he's got a page going there that's been tracking his progress and things that he's been changing along the way to make the trip.

Many people have mentioned not having instagram. I am nearly certain that you don’t need an account (which is free by the way) to follow Shane since his account is set to public.

Simply click on the link in the first post of this thread and you should be able to see everything he has done.
