Thanks guys, great info.

(Added Note: This truck is equipped with Limited Slip differentials both front and rear)

My Owner’s Manual references “4HI” and “4LO” but the electronically shifted transfer case selector shows “4LOCK” and “4LO”. Dodge appears to use the terms “4HI” and “4LOCK” interchangeably. Apparently on the Dodge, both HI/LOCK and LO work the same way with the “4LO” being a much lower-geared version of “4HI” (aka “4LOCK”).

Manual states engine speed in 4LO is 3x higher than normal 2WD or 4HI.

The following statement is also included: “Driving in the 4HI and 4LO positions on dry hard surfaced roads may cause increased tire wear and damage to the driveline components.”

I did not notice any adverse binding on pavement, however the driveway had some heavy tire/rubber marks. In the future I plan to keep turns gradual when backing in.

A limited slip is essentially an open diff with clutches that when one tire slips it transfers power to the othe tire. It still is fine to use in 4 low for the short periods you would use it. Btw, I have the same truck.

4Lock is "4 Hi". I am almost certain that Dodge/RAM have never had locking as a option from the factory.

4Lock is a front-rear lock rather than a more normal left-right lock. I didn't know there were situations where front/rear turned at different speeds. Learn something new everyday.
