@Dworwood did you decide if you were going to trade up? I'm getting Spring Fever pretty bad, looking at some Helix 7's on ebay 🆒
At this time no. I can’t find the new model yet and don’t want to be without one, it’s time to start fishing! I want to see the new one work before I get rid of my 7. Sorry I didn’t mean to drag you along but just don’t want to get rid of it yet.

Pulled the trigger and got the last G2 Helix 7 at Sportmans. Had debated on whether or not to get a sonar for the bow but thought I better do it so I can learn to spoon Stripers before I die. It’s just the basic sonar but it was a great price.
Be careful what you ask for! Understanding spooning may take time away for catching other species of fish. Or it may take you to the lake more often when the weather is cold. Spooning is the best technique from November to April.

The later part is why I really got it. Have kicked myself for not having one sooner and/or starting to take late fall/winter/early early spring trips. That ends now!

I'm ready whenever you are Preston. Where do you want to meet? I ended up with 25 stripers from my trip to Gunsight. My "old fashioned" graph was getting hot due to all the stripers.... Let's do this.View attachment 4038

When in "spooning mentality" this graph picture is every bit as exciting as seeing a striper boil on the lake surface. This is how we caught 80 fish last week in an hour and and half, by seeing the graph light up and then giving the fish a "shad imitating" spoon. We left the school so we could go weigh the big fish or we could have easily caught over 100.

Sue and I were in warm creek a few years back in December and found a huge school that we got started with chumming anchovies then threw spoons at them for a couple of hours. in the end we were catching them right near the surface on 1/4 oz jigs with bare hooks!

We ended up stopping as we were wore out, and the total was 144 just between the 2 of us, and the screen was still lit up when we left.

If you are on your own is is kinda hard to get them fired up and keep them fired up, it is better the more spoons you can have in the water, but you can certainly get them going and keep them going with a bit of anchovy chum! ;)
