Overloaded houseboat burying human waste in the sand

Just a question, could I pump out a houseboat at one of the floating toilets? It seems like it would not have the capacity for that.

I've never done it cause I've never been close to having or operating a houseboat but all the floating restrooms I've seen (Escalante might not?) have a pump out from what I can tell.

Pegasus, thanks for posting. I think this type of behavior needs to be called out whenever possible.

This isn't the type of thing that you can plead ignorance to, with the amount of signage and literature around the lake. I hope they get hammered for every single dump they took and banned from the lake for a while.

Whenever we have taken a large group on a house boat. We make a point to camp with in a mile or two of the floating restroom and do a morning Potty run to easy the use of the House boat bathroom and worse case go pumpout at the floating restroom part way through our trip

YUCK ... and what the heck.

There is a spot I am going to stay away from.... But then again I bet this is going on all over the lake.

Yes the Escalante does have a pump out we used it.. I have pics to prove we used it ~LOL~ and is likely why a lot of people are too lazy to use it vs one of the major pump outs - it is a manual operation.

I know that the floating restrooms at GHB, Forgotten, Rincon and Escalante all have the manual pump out for a houseboat.

And I also know that it takes a long time, and a lot of effort, to pump out the holding tanks. But that shouldn't be used as an excuse not to use them if needed.

Some people are lazy and find it easier to do what was observed on this houseboat. A couple of years ago Trash Tracker saw a boat with a shovel and TP stuck in the sand right in front of the houseboat..... they were doing what this boat did .. I forget the whole story, but bottom line they did not stop when approached and left their human waste for the Trash Trackers to clean up... and there was a pump out in the general area this was happening [IIRC it was Padre Bay area].... from there you have the Dominguez or the Rock Creek pump outs... or Dangling Rope.

years ago I asked a park service guy why they did not have electric motors for the pump out because most houseboats had a generator, He said then the boats would totally pump out, and that with the hand pump they would just pump out enough to get them through

They need to throw the book at this one...make the fine stick, and make an example of them. Post the results at all the marinas. The pocketbook is all that will stop some jerks.

I agree , there is no way that everyone on that boat was ignorant of the law. Just to lazy and selfish to go with the proper thing to do. These are the people the law was designed for. Now let the hammer fall.

We were in Rock Creek one year on the first large leg on the left. And on the south side behind a large hill at about the high water mark was a huge "Throne" made of rock and a deep pit with a small tree branch with an empty roll of Toilet Paper hanging on it. Gross!
