Opportunity to Purchase the Wally Lure Company

Maybe there is a lure build week every 3-4 months on a beach or in Vegas… Maybe have an extra 15 open ownership slots for future buy in.

Explore each owner having a private run with a few extra to sell or trade. Each owner is responsible for funding their own materials for private run so material cost is not a shared liability. Make a few extra on each run and sell them here on the board.

Do a run for each honorary member - example Dave, Pete, Rim, and so many others. What a way to keep so many legacies alive. Imagine the chatter on catching a big one in the Juan with the limited 2021 PK.

Brand this thing - brand it by year and by owner. A twister here, a dot of paint there, a splash of sand from a special beach…

And look at what a collectors edition including a copy of every private lure would fetch at the T1D poker run. This means making an extra 20 per run just for future collector boards.

This thing is screaming WOW! You could even have an annual work shop where non owners made their own Wally for $100 etc.

You are not gonna make big cash, but it’s will keep you busy with like minded folks and give you a private label lure like a family wine.

I have reread this post fifty times. It gets more interesting each time I read it. There are at least a dozen offshoots to each point Bubba makes.

Also, today, I had a delightful conversation with Gary Webb, the current owner of the assets now known as Wally Lure. He disclosed to me that, after discussions with Wayne Gustaveson, the assets can be had for $7000. He also gave me his point of view on how to promote/market this product. While quite visionary, I will keep that under wraps for the present.

I'm not a fraternal (clubby) type of guy but I can't imagine a better consortium of owners than a bunch of hard-core fishermen based around the greatest fishery in the United States. We also have a "killer-Mongo-dog" website and blogosphere already in place. Having made and sold Bass lures in the 70s I know what it takes to produce enough product to see any meaningful success. But with enough investors/sponsors/users/promoters/salesman this thing could be subbed out to a fab shop offering rudimentary skills for assembly.

I don't think there are any big bucks here but it would be an absolute kick in the pants.

With our fraternity of sportsmen actively promoting this product, branding it and keeping the legacy alive, I think it would be a lot of fun as well as a source of inspiration and pride. (This slab will probably also catch kokanee, which doubles the market.)

I think the guy looking only for profits is missing the bigger picture…

Profit was not part of the idea in any way, as profit or lack thereof may simply end the deal before it begins.

But with a thing like this, the opportunity and enjoyment connected to it is bigger than the limited cash you may squeeze out of it.

You do know, some companies are designed to not make money. Some companies enjoy long happy lives without ever making a penny of profit, success is measured in losses and expenses and not profits.

The lure club concept has a romantic adventure appeal that bonds the few on this board with congruent values with memories of the original Walley Lure.

I am not a fish guy but I have been on this board long enough to know legacy and value. I am part of the digital trendsetters who used Mosaic and Navigator and BBS and AOL (when it had fewer than 25k members), and with a US Robotic 19.7k Baud modem, I was able to always have a powell friend near.

Remember the words with blue underlines, the blue underlines took you far away to unknown treasures… and this is a treasure. Wally deserves a blue underline.

Back in the same BBS days there was a lot of fraternity brother type chatter from guys on this board with a much tighter bond and earned hand shake… and every one of those guys (many are now gone) spoke of the Wally with poetic words of adventure, respect and appreciation and WOW. The original WW on BBS was the first time I ever heard of Dave and Wally.

Make no mistake, Your $1000 (or whatever the cash equivalent is buy-in) is not funding a global brand with unlimited earning potential, it is only an idea to own a part of a legacy and maybe have a private reserve Wally under your own label *sharing the molds).

For those who see the light, WOW is not a big enough word. Wally Wow. That is a good name - The Wally Wow… The Wally Wow Fishing Company.

View this as a shared vineyard - each family shares the grapes and adds their own brand or name suffix to the label.

How about a signature WG Wally? How about a commemorative PK Wally. Rim, Dave…

If you still need help connecting the dots, as a new fishing lure business owner, it may be possible that 100% of your fishing related expenses you incur to improve the product, produce the product, market the product, including all research and development and prototyping along with testing all competing products might be tax deductible, as in the boat, the gas, the pole, the nets, the other hooks, the sunglasses, the houseboat, and maybe even the beer if it makes you think better, etc…

This thing is as fun and as big as you want to make it.

I know nothing about fishing, nothing about lures, nothing about hooks, poles, nets, spoons and jibs… but I understand opportunity and fun and the Wally lure is both.

If you need someone break the ice and get the bidding started I will toss in $1000.

I will play it forward and will give my share away at a later date.

Who do I Venmo.

And if you do not need an opening bid, then I am fine being a customer, I want some wally’s for Christmas tree ordinates for my fishing buddies - again, who do I Venmo?

Dude. Do it. It is about history, respect and friendship. I wish I had the time because I would just for this reasons. I will however be the first to buy your product. Get ‘er done. BTW…Sq?

I am interested. I already make jigs spinnerbaits and bucktails i have never sold any just give them to friends and have a stock for personal that is un real. I will be following this thread. I am out of Rifle CO and preparing to go into semi retirement might be a good opportunity to get with a few guys and sell everything i already make.
 
This would be great if we could put these Wally Lures back on the market. I would like to help in any way possible. I am not able to buy the company due to old age and health issues. I would be glad to autograph the lures and give advice on how, where and when to use them. I would buy some lures now if they are available. I can promote them on this website because I know how well they work, particularly for stripers in the winter months and during the boil season. Just let me know how to help the new owners and I can advertise on WW.Net!

My only thought would be to also add a slightly bent Wally Lure to the line of lures. That would give them a slight wobble while descending during the drop.....more flash and better simulation of a fluttering wounded shad. It would take some testing (I'd suggest Wayne as the director of testing) to determine the optimum bend and sharp, etc. Chuck
