North Lake Launch Guidance

The “hard chine” on a boat is the edge on that boat formed by the side of the hull turning under transitioning to the bottom of the hull. When centered on the trailer on dry land it’s easy to note the distance between that area (or side) of the hull and the fender on the trailer. On a 26’ Chaparral it’s about 4 inches. Position one crewman in the water, up to waist deep if necessary, on the downwind side (if calm, good for you) behind the trailer wheels and let them maintain that distance as you slowly roll up the ramp. They may have to put their back in to it depending on the wind or if too windy, have a line tied off the stern cleat upwind with another crew pulling against the wind.

We added some guides to my sisters 18’ Bayliner, worked pretty well. It’s a very light and shallow draft. Our SeaRay the deepest point is in the bow, and I just drive it in and it centers us up. If I try to float on it inevitably ends up way off when we pull out. Had to back back in several times when we first got it, and we were working out the trailer depth. It’s a heavy enough boat that I worry about bending guide poles or messing up the boat if I make the poles stout enough.
 
Not familiar with the halls/bullfrog situation but would it be possible to run over, check out the houseboat and then bring it to bullfrog to load?

Yes, that’s possible. There is sandy beach around the new primitive ramp, but you’d need to scout it before hand to be sure. I believe I’ve heard there is a courtesy dock and walk way near the old Bullfrog marina slips access was as well
 
Well,, my buddy finaly got back to me on the latest ramp scenario. Sounds like it's still a work in progress but it's up and functional. The angle and depth seem to be good but it won't accomodate too big of boats just yet as it's only one plate long but when they close the first incarnation they'll have those plates to work with and that sounds to be the plan.

Heard it's a bit of a muddy mess this morning with all of the rain that's been happening, but this too shall pass.

Some people do not read the Anglers Corner and may not know that you are talking about the new temporary ramp at Bullfrog that is replacing the temporary ramp that was too steep.
 
I launched at Exec on Friday the 21st, no issues 24' Run about. I had to use the new primitive ramp on Friday the 29th to retrieve. I saw a guy pull a 28' triple axle Cobalt out of Executive Friday the 29th, I thought about it but went to primitive. It was not too bad , steep, but I got it on the trailer pretty easily, you need to start shallow and hook up and slowly pull out, but not a big deal. I think you can use that for another 3 foot drop I bet. It was not that big of a deal. I like the complaints and crappy reports though, keeps the people away (not me). In my opinion as much work as a Lake Powell trip is, and its always worth it, a steep ramp with no one in line is not too much work to do, but thats just me. We had the best week on the lake. Saw a few smaller boils up near forgotten and down my the wakeless north of Halls. Not nice boils but we did catch 12-18" stripers in them. Amazing beaches in Forgotten, we had the whole canyon to ourselves besides one camped by the ****ter. Major skeleton crew at the marina, guys told us its dead. They got 78 hours average a week last year and this year only gettin 38 hours a week. Told us the 75's will all be moving to Wahweap because of demand, but we wanted one and could not get it? They are still working on ramps and bulldozing, who knows what will happen, but I hope it snows a lot.
 
Just retrieved on the new primitive ramp. Looks to be one lane. Good angle with boiler plates under the trailer. I think is was around 12’ deep on approach, unlike the other ramp thats too steep and around 3.5'to 4-5’ quite a ways out. Biggest problem I saw was just past the boiler plates is a steep ramp of mud that was looking pretty sloppy due to recent rain and boats pulling out. I would suggest 4wd if more rain or constant use.
