Does your boat have a speedometer , I had a problem with mine and it was filling up the engine cowling . I had to un hook it from the lower unit . Dont need it when you have GPS.

I do. And when on plane it and or the engine itself sprays right back at the drains for the live wells and the intake for the pump.

One of my boats years ago had a leak in the water pressure gauge hose. It was amazing how much water that pumped in and it did it mainly when I was running at higher rpm.

I don’t think I do have a water pressure gauge? The only gauges I have are RPM’s, volts, gas and MPH. And at the mercy of sounding incredibly stupid is the mph gauge dependent on water pressure? @WaterMan ? I haven’t seen any indicators that there is a pressure issue with the mph gauge? It’s seems to be respondent and consistent?

So I’m no expert! But there are several kinds of speedometer types. I know some have a little wheel that sticks down in the water and spins to give mph. I’m pretty sure my old crestliner went off of rpm. It always read faster than the gps speed, and I generally ran a 15” propeller. With the 19” that came on the boat it was more accurate.

Mine is a little hose that come out of the front of the motor facing the stern, just above the lower unit.

Read another thread on walleye central that seems to be the exact issue I’m seeing. Seems like it definitely could be the speedometer? Leaking at some point/only at higher speeds.

The gauge would read normal if you have a small crack in the line. You will only see change when the crack starts to become bigger allowing more air/water to escape. My guess is about equal to half the diameter of the hose. If you have a way to pressurize the line and cap off if the speedometer drops then you should have a leak in the line. Or pull the line at the motor and plug it on your next trip to see if you still get water in the boat.

Thanks! This avenue seems promising. Thanks for the tips.

Got in late and stayed at the lodge Friday night. Got a later start and headed up the Good Hope Saturday, didn’t have camp situated til after lunch. There were a lot more boats hovering around this February than last January when we saw none up there for three days. Must be the rumors of good Striper fishing. The more the merrier on Striper fishing!

Over that half day and a full day Sunday we caught just over 50 Stripers I think? We were not catching as many as we were seeing, and like others have mentioned you had to be right over them or you were missing some, and even when right over them sometimes they didn’t care. We used slab spoons, and my dad and I threw either a tube or a walleye assasin and fan casted those in the general areas we were fishing. Weather was great, fishing was great and it was another safe and awesome trip to the best place. It was the most members we have run into and it was a blast catching up or meeting some, even if briefly. It’s been said many times but it’s great to have such a great community of anglers who are like minded and good to be around. I know if something were to go wrong they’d help in a second, let alone share tips and spots.

Over this trip and few recent ones I’m noticing some extra water getting into our crestliner. So we spent some time trying to trouble shoot. Even with the livewell drain and livewell intake plugged I was still getting some in, especially during running on plane, then coming off, possible old water coming from the bow? Idk, I’m doubting any type of crack or leak on the hull as we’ve never hit anything significant etc.? Other than the seats threading coming apart and a few minor things like tightening the windshield this is the first relative issue we’ve had with this boat. Anyway, that isn’t the fun part.

Not many pics this time, but Nixon was promising Kevin more videos so maybe I can hand those duties off to him now ha.

I had a leak that i could not find. As a last resort i filled the boat up with water and it came out of the front livewell thru hull fitting on the side of the boat. Just had to tighten the thru hull fitting.

Hey, Preston and Nixon, an Indian friend of mine, once told me “ White man build big fire and stand way back and freeze. Indian build small fire and stand up close and keep warm”

You guys must’ve really been cold. Sounds like a great trip. Glad you had fun, caught a bunch of fish, and looking forward to a video of your trip.

Thanks for the great report. I also like big fires.

Some of the suggestions for filling the boat with water while on the trailer......I did that exact same thing years ago on our old aluminum Starcraft. That didn't leak at ALL. But as soon as you would launch, it would leak. I never found it until we removed the floor, and then launched it at a small local lake. The Keel was leaking, and had seperated from the boat. It would ONLY leak from the pressure against the lake. Filling it from the inside actually applied the pressure against the leak and would basically seal it. Hopefully this isn't your issue. We tried and tried and tried to fix our old boat, but it was just at the end of it's life. That old boat gave us 33 years on Powell

Me and my dad rebuilt an old 79’ StarCraft last year same thing happened, leaking at keel. We replaced over a hundred rivets. IMG_8248.jpegIMG_7543.jpeg
Water tight now😎.

What’s the warranty on the hull? Just my personal opinion, take it for what it’s worth, but I’d really be pleasantly surprised if it was something other than the hull.

So if you are in warranty I’d take it in to the dealer now while things are still pretty slow for them, in the hopes that they can get it at least diagnosed before high season comes. Because if where you live is anything like here, it’s really difficult to have anything major done at a dealer in prime season.

Good luck.

From what I can tell Crestliner has a lifetime warranty on the original buyer for the main welds that attach to the keel and gunnels. Honestly I’d be more shocked if it was the hull. Maybe that’s just my hope though.
