For years I watched my buddy use a crane for launch & retrieve at Dana Point Harbor for his boat.....didn't wanna put the painted trailer in salt water....worked great, only problem was the occasional wait....he didn't mind....

There is a similar system in Newport Beach

On the Kenai Penn in AK they use a big wheeled tractor with a trailer that has a 25-30' tongue to put boats in and out of the waters of Cook inlet.
