No Navy just old pilot, 50+ years in aviation :-) :-)
Grew up working on round motors in A&P school.
R2800s, R2600s, Shakey Jakes, R985s, Wrights and P&Ws
Nothing sounds or smells quite like a round motor.
N3s make a cool noise on takeoff with the prop tips breaking the speed of sound!!!!
I still remember the sounds of DC-6s and Connies going over my house when I was a kid.
First airplane I ever "flew" was a DC-3!
Ya, I like round motors.

Fishing at Lone rock yesterday was tough. Trolling did not work. The school that had been at the mouth of Lone Rock Canyon had moved on. We fished for an hour without a bite which is very unusual. We trolled over to the bay between Lone Rock and Lone Rock Canyon. Finally found a school on the bottom at 57 feet. Dropped spoons on the school and after trying for 5-10 minutes got one fish to hit. As that fish was fighting we got another one. There was intense activity for about 15-20 minutes as the school came off the bottom and followed our lures as the boat drifted. After putting 15 fish in the cooler the school left us and we did not get another hit so we went in.

The best technique is probably bait fishing. My best technique is spooning. Study the graph and target large balls of fish near the bottom. Some targets are shad that appear as a horizontal line but stripers (fish stack with spaces between) are often near shad. When a striper is hooked work very quickly to get the spoon back in the water. I sometimes use a second rod after dropping the fish on the deck and before unhooking it so I get another fish hooked before the school leaves. Don’t waste time in between fish. All other responsibilities can be done after the school departs. There is plenty of time then to put fish in the cooler and clean up.

Here is a suspended striper school looking for spoons.

All I saw in that area was bottom, not even a shad ball. I did see a small slurp on the other side of the rock from where you were and put a Kastmaster in front of them but no takers.

Did you guys see the last issue of Sport Avation? Some guy built an RV and hung a round motor on the front of it. Pretty cool looking.

Good going! Do you have the CD of round engine sounds?
There are two: "Round Sounds Vol. 1" and Vol. 2.
The first has some great 1340's (T6/SNJ).
The 2nd has a Connie (R-3350) during start, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, landing reverse and rollout.
(Turns out I flew that same Connie in 1973/74 cropdusting. And it's flying in Switzerland today...one of only two in the world flying passengers.)

A little bit of thread drift but-
I got 1 flight in the cockpit jumpseat on a Connie at KVNY way back in the late 60s
It was a training flight for Futura Airlines but the airline never got off the ground.
I got a jumpset in a C-89 boxcar at KSMO. this was a packet plane with the jet on top of the fuselage.
They used it to deliver helicopters to South America and the only way they could get over the Andes was to fire up the jet!
I've got about 50 hrs right seat in a PBY Catalina out of KVNY with 1830s

Would love to own and afford a PBY on Powell.
Dad was a riveter on PBY's for Consolidated in San Diego before WW2.
I remember a C-119 box car with the jet on top.
Hawkins & Powers had some in Wyoming for fire fighting.

Guess I've hijacked this thread enough. Good to hear of your experiences.
