Kodiak tent Stakes?

We don't have the Kodiak but several of you asked about what you use on the floor to prevent tearing when you put a cot on it. I bought two moving blankets on sale from Harbor Freight to use for that. First try will be next week.

This forum is the best! You all give great advice and are so helpful. Looks like we are about to become one of the Kodiak folks at Powell. Thanks for all your answers to our questions!

Had a 10X10 canvas wall tent (old style) and a small flexbow puptent once in Warm Creek (25 yrs ago) The wall tent went completely down but we were sleeping in the small tent and it just collapsed around us and popped back up again in the strong gusts. Heavy rain but never a drop in the small tent. FLEXBOW ++
I would also think the "dome" style tents for Alaska (not a Walmart Special) would work very well as the wind slides around the dome. Need a very good rain fly also. Anyway you cut it, "cheap" won't get'er done in a big blow.

A few years back I bought ($119 delivered from Walmart) 9x10 Coleman "Easy Up". It really is easy up. I can erect and stake it down in about 10 minutes by myself. Great ventilation, big door, strong floor, 6'6" inside height with little slope to the sides. Can walk around in it fully standing up. When Judy and I go, it's two cots with plenty of room to store stuff out of wind, weather and away from critters. It's outer shell is weather proof so no fly. VERY happy with it. Weighs about 25#. I don't use a kodiak at lake powell despite owning and loving 2 of the tents. The sand is too much of a pain to get stakes into. If you must do it I would go to kirkhams and pickup up some of their heavy duty longer spade type stakes for sand use. The other issue for me is weight and bulk. The kodiaks are much heavier to carry in the boat and take up more room. For lake powell I recommend the dome type tents. No stakes needed and lighterweight. however make sure there is weight in them so they don't get blown into the water.

There is no comparison between a nylon tent and canvas in bad weather.
I don't disagree with you. I would also say in all cases except for being in a boat I am runnin one of my kodiaks. I do 2 boat trips a year, one is a float on the snake. the other is a lake powell. its simply not very practical to take a 70 pound tent with poles an the accompanying space it takes up in the boat. I can set up the smaller of my kodiaks in less than 5 minutes. The other downside is using a kodiak in sand. the factory stakes aren't going to hold. but if I can take the weight and space. YES kodiak. I have an 8x9 and a 10x14. both do better in the wind, are more roomy, you can stand up and are generally just more comfortable to sleep in than the nylon dome tents.
