Thank you! Already a BoatUS member, took about 5 minutes to logon and get my MMSI cert. Waiting for my VHF radio and will start familiarizing myself with operation.

. Which radio did you get? Sq

Found the Standard Horizon HX870 on Amazon for $149 + free shipping. Not quite sure why the price was so low, everywhere else I checked it was $219-249.

Looked like it included the battery, chargers, etc...we shall see...

Make sure it has the built in GPS. For $149 it may not. Sq

I clicked on the link and it's $195.14 for me - strange it would change in just 16 hours. I own one of these already and was going to buy another one......

Wow, you’re right...how weird!

Also I noticed the listing yesterday said it ships from iBoats.com. Now it says it ships from Amazon.com.

I wonder if my order triggered a price correction (possibly a pricing error?). I did find it rather interesting that the radio everywhere else was at least $200.

Will report back on details when it arrives.

Marinator, Almost forgot, be sure to turn on NMEA output in the "Advaned" settings menu. Page 146 of the manual tells all the output data available but your radio will know what it needs or can use.

The company I work for sells a number of items on Amazon. The lowest price gets the "Buy Box" or first view by the customer, with other options listed to the right. I suspect that Iboats had a limited number of those radios, and once their inventory ran out, someone else became the lowest priced seller and won the "Buy Box". We are the manufacturer of products and don't like to compete with our resellers so we rarely have the Buy Box, but that's not my department.

The Amazon pricing thing really is confusing. At first I thought I paid $148.98, then I checked back and it was $143.00, then it shot up to $195.14. Today it’s listed at $189.51.

So the “Buy Box” process described above makes sense...apparently the Amazon price varies depending on timing.

Anyway, I received my SH HX870 Floating Tranceiver with GPS today, the price was $148.98 through iBoats via Amazon.

Here’s what came in the package:

Looks like exactly what I got for $240 at West marine last spring, definitely got yourself a great deal.

Grant, I just received this from U. S. Power Squadrons when I asked if there was a charge for an MMSI #;;

We are the only group still offering it for free as a public service
to encourage wider public acceptance.
Appreciate your help in getting the message out about an MMSI
and where to find it: www.usps.org/mmsi/

Thanks for posting the link, I just got my MMSI and it was simple and only took about 10 min.

Does anyone know if this number can be changed ? Or is this number married to the boat for forever ?

I called over to the state (Utah) and they couldn't give me any info , called over to the DMV and they couldn't understand the question , they thought I was asking if I can change the HIN or VIN.

This boat is a hand me down and I would like to change this if at possible to my lucky number ( for my new MMSI number for DSC )

thanks much

I asked our county treasurer this question and she checked with the Utah State office. She said there is no process to change those numbers, they stay with the boat for it entire life. I guess you are stuck with them, sorry.

Here in CO when i got my boat (new owner) i had to change and get a new number. Can you sell the boat to your wife for a dollar and get a new number?

Wow , thanks for checking into that for me Dworwood. The number must be tagged along with the registration somewhere in some state database, hence you can only change it when the boat changes hands.

and thats a good idea littlesaltwash , but its not that big of a deal for me. I was just curious if it was as simple as putting new stickers on the boat, sounds likes its not .

Thanks all
