Thanks for the pictures Dworwood, i totally see how it works now. just got back from Powell and it was a great time. fishing was good but i did get a back ache from filleting fish on the cooler top. stripers were spawning up at the top of San Juan.
Tell me more about spawning stripers in the San Juan. Did you see floating eggs? Active surface action? Or found deep schools on the graph? Something else?
I am very interested in your comments.

Wayne we camped up at Neskahi Wash area May 24 - 27. two of the days were sunny and calm with not much wind . water temp was 62 to 69. it might have been slurps, I did not notice any eggs but was not looking for them. In the morning until about 10;30 am the stripers were all over in groups of 7 to 15 on top. we didn't need to chase them, the just came to us in casting range. and right to the boat. was casting silver cast master in front of them for the best catching. seen some all day but the best was in the morning. most stripers were healthy with a thick filet.

Thanks for the response. You found stripers slurping while eating tiny shad. They form a scrimmage line and move through a school of shad sucking up as many as they can.

Spawning occurs after dark following a large increase in water temperature. No spawning occurs after the sun hits the water.

No very little debris, and the water had actually cleared up a little since we were there before. We fished just above Neshkahi earlier in may maybe a mile or so, around the 10th I believe, and that was about as far as I wanted to go due to the water color. May 26th we were able to fish clear up to the start of the great bend.
