In lieu of Castle Rock Cut...

The idea of a wave dissipater (is that a word?) along the walls of the Maytag Strait is interesting. Something that floats against the wall and moves up and down with fluctuating lake levels. Painted to match the walls for visuals. A shallow angle facing the channel so the waves don't "reflect" off the existing 90 degree walls of the canyon.

You guys may think I'm kidding about all this but if you've never experienced the Maytag Straits in the high use times of the year they are absolutely miserable.

And we may be facing this for a LONG time to come. This board has a lot of incredible minds on it.

We should brainstorm this.

It's about 4.5 miles from Wahweap to the wakeless of APM and about 5 miles from the north end of the APM wakeless to the entrance of Warm Creek.

Even if "only" one side was done that would dissipate 50% of the waves.

A break-water made out of tires like they have around the marinas. One solid line right up the middle through the strait. Uplake on one side, down lake on the other.

i like the floating tire in the middle idea. probably get mine companies in utah and arizona to donate tires and steel cable. ADOT probably has millions of the concrete road barriers to use as anchors. easy unskilled labor construction. and its not permanent and can be towed in and towed out to be removed. leave a 1/4 mile gap at antelope marina no-wake zones.

My power boat is open and only 16'. I am not sure if it is capable of making it through the Maytag. Definitely not towed. I have been in reflected waves in my kayak and it was not fun. A couple of boaters in 25'+ boats lit them up in a narrow canyon. Wont be much of an issue if I cant launch at Wahweap the end of July. 3556 is the minimum for Wahweap. Only 8.5' to go.

Never said you could be stupid and survive
It can be done safely but slower We're talking house boats not ski boats at ski speeds at night.
I know a guy who beached his wake boat 3 years in a row on whales in the day time
Stupid is as stupid does.

100%

But on a dark night where lights do very little on the water other than destroy your night vision, that particular stretch of water can be extremely disorienting what with all the green and red ATONs flashing and not knowing exactly which one is the one you're supposed to be navigating to.

Were it not for bread crumb trails on a good chartplotter this would be fool hearted to attempt and maybe even with that? Especially in consideration of all the hairpin turns and hazards.

What can I say= Red on the right returning (or up lake)
US Coast Guard Master License in hand.
As I said, it can be done safely _ IF you know what you re doing.
Gotta use your head No dark nights maybe 1/2 moon or better, know the route by daytime
Know the lights and which ones don't light etc etc etc
Just like flying you don't blast off at night in bad weather without training but it can be done safely

Drove up and around to Warm Creek last weekend, all the way down to waterline for some play. We were there on the Houseboat in October, used the floating vault toilet. I suppose you could still use it, even if at a bit of a slope
