Houseboat Value

I pay pretty close attention to boat values, especially stern drive open bows. My highly unscientific conclusion is that if a vessel is listed on a website like Boat Trader, it is because it is way overpriced, and the seller is either oblivious to value or buried in it. Why would you pay to list a desirable boat if you want a fair market price?
Conversely, a nice boat can be worth double the NADA, because the NADA doesn't distinguish between low hour fresh water boats, and high hour salt water boats, which are mostly worthless. Ebay is a good place to learn values from.

I'm also always watching the various classifieds for boats. I think I flipped 6 or 7 boats in 2019. Hoping for more than that this year.

When I am buying, and looking for a deal, I focus on Craigslist in small, remote markets, although I have also found a couple on Facebook Marketplace. Every boat I have sold has been on the Denver Craigslist. Right now I have a 2001 Lund that is for sale. I put it on Facebook Marketplace and have had a bunch of tire kickers, but I don't think many are serious about buying this time of year.

In regard to Boat Trader, I do think it has its place, but it is pretty specialized. Boat Trader seems to have better search functions than any of the other classifieds. For your average boat, I don't think I would ever use it. But I do know people who were looking for something specific (often a big block in a smaller bow rider) that have found the boat they bought on Boat Trader. If I were selling my Malibu, I might give boat trader a try. The LS3 in my boat makes it a bit more unique.
