Houseboat Value

You can have a survey done and they will include appraisal if it's for the whole boat. they run $700 -$800 If it's a shared ownership week(s) you will have to compare your week to others for sale

Every three years my insurance requires a marine survey which assigns a value. I'm willing to bet that if you give a few details about your HB there are people on this board who can give you an idea.

With additional information we could probably help you out better - year/make/model plus description and condition of boat and what you are wanting the value for. As an example, a marine survey can be useful when buying a boat to evaluate the condition of the boat, but when selling a boat, the survey would do little to tell you what market value would be for a houseboat on Lake Powell. The survey may assign a "value" but the true value is market-driven and from my experience can be far different than what the survey states (usually the real value is lower than what the survey states).

You can get somewhat of an idea, from NADA Boat values, If you know the add-ons to the base price. I usually just use the base low retail to get an idea.I think in a lot of cases they are high versus real sales prices. Lake Powell is different than most areas because of location.

We have a 1997 Playcraft Model 3710 houseboat with a force engine 120 ELPT on a 1989 EHAL trailer. We need an approximate value for estate planning.

If you want to run it on Nada, click on this link and fill in the details.

I ran one for you just on some assumptions (not knowing what options you have) and came up with this:
(To me these figures seem pretty low, especially if its got a roadworthy trailer)

THAT does seem low. I think one would be hard pressed to find one for that money, unless as Rivergoer says, the trailer is just a yard trailer. The aluminum pontoons are a real plus in good condition and the Force, not so much.

The thing that will make your boat appealing for a sale and really does raise the value in this area is the simple fact that it is on it's own trailer, especially if it's a nice trailer. I hear from people quite often requesting info on where to find a trailer for a houseboat. They are just not that common in this area.

Now, as a comparison (kinda), I have a customers houseboat here for sale. It's a 1987 Landau 40' houseboat with a Johnson 60 and on it's own trailer, but it is a home made trailer. I know it has been up for sale for at least 4 years and the price is $10,000 and it is still for sale.

But on the other hand, I have another customer who built their own trailer and claim it cost about the same to build as it would have cost them to L&R about 6 times from a company in Ticaboo. Just a reference to pricing of L&R if you don't have your own trailer

Sad thing is that Value is different than what people will pay sometimes. I hope you guys do get what you want for it.

That is awesome. My wife and I love our Playcraft pontoon boat, just can't seem to get out on it enough.
Where is the houseboat located?
