We are headed that way Thursday morning through Monday to chase boils and fish any other fish we can catch. We did really well last year in the southern portion of GHB fishing a single boil for an hour at sun up and sun down. Are the majority of the boils scattered around? Or were they mainly boiling in a certain spot? Thank you for any more info that can lead to more stripers caught and shad saved. We will report back what we find when we return next week.

We were in Red Canyon area from Wednesday evening till Sunday noon. Water was murky above Castle butte Wednesday and there was a little bit of wood floating also. Windy Wednesday evening did not see a fish or even make a cast. Just drove around looking at the conditions. Thursday fishing was outstanding, had to stop 3 times to go back to the houseboat to clean fish. Wife and I caught 142 that day, nobody else fishing anywhere near us. About half were to thin to clean for my liking. My son and his family showed up Friday mid afternoon. My son, grandson and I caught 61 between 7 and dark. Had a blast with my 6 year old grandson. I would cast for him when they were too far for him to cast to. As soon as he had the fish at the boat I would cast him another pole and we would swap poles. At times they were close enough and he would make his own cast. He is fairly proficient for a 6 year old. Saturday and Sunday were more of the same. We played around pulling tubes and swimming a little more fished a little less. Caught 275 stripers for the trip - 40 or so catfish and several nice bluegills behind the houseboat. The catfishing is really good the second day and beyond where you have been cleaning fish. Caught 85 to 90 % of the stripers on top, some trolling and some jigging 3/4 ounce cast masters. Best baits were the 3" Storm wild eye swim shads - shad colored skitter pops - and a 4" whopper plopper. The whopper plopper is a really fun bait to fish, especially for a young fishermen. Sunday took a trip back up lake just to look and found that the water had cleared up clear past 4 mile. Saw boils and people fishing all along the way from lower GHB to past 4 mile. Water clarity was 3 to 5' with most places being about 3.5'. Water was a really nice green with a hint of brown. Perfect water to fish in. Not so much for swimming and their was to much wood in the water for us to pull tubes from Castle butte up. Caught most of our fish in the back of red canyon around the last island - 25 to 45 feet of water. Several fishermen on the weekend. Probably 15 or so camps in Good Hope bay. There were plenty of boils for every one. Top water action was somewhere between a slurp and a boil. Most of them moved at about 2 MPH. A few were stable and would stay still and we did not have to move to catch them. Some of them would move along shoulder to shoulder like a slurp, but more aggressive. Some of them were fish coming out of the water almost full on boils. Seemed to depend on the size of the shad they were chasing. Of the 275 we caught I cleaned 135 of them, others I recycled. They were just not healthy enough to fool with. The 12 to 15 inch fish were in the best shape, they were also the pickiest ones to catch. Had to use a smaller bait for consistent hooks ups. The 16 to 18 Inch fish were about half and half. Vary few over 18" were in good enough shape to clean, but we did catch a few in boils right at the houseboat that were 19 - 20 " - 3 to 3.5 pounds. I personally have never caught that many skinny fish on top. We even caught skinny fish trolling at 4 MPH? SMB fishing was slow but I did catch a dozen or so.
Flipper---Were you launching at Bullfrog and running up lake or were you launching at Hite? I would like to get some info on launch conditions at Hite and how much debris is actually in the water up that far north. Look forward to hitting the water with the grandsons next week.

Here are some photos of Hite taken on 8/3/19. The water is 5'-6' deep until you find the river channel then it goes to 30'. There were 4 trucks with trailers sitting at the primitive ramp. A lot of stuff floating around The Horn but it is only for a short distance and it is not too hard to pick your way around it.
Ed We were fishing out of the houseboat we brought up from Bull Frog. Saw several groups leaving at the end of the day headed north so they either were camped up north and had put in at Hite or were camped at Hite. Spoke with several people that said the launching was good and easy at Hite for now. There was quite a little bit of floating wood around the horn. Nothing so thick that you had to come off plane and pick your way through it, but you had to pay attention and pick a lane in places. Sunday there were people fishing boils from mid good hope bay all the was up past 4 mile. Nobody was having to share and there were boils that no one was fishing. Take some storm wild eye swimbaits and whopper ploppers. Both of these are easy to cast and are simple to retrieve, just reel them in fairly fast, and both are very effective.
We hit Red again Thursday and Friday and hammered them again, on the way back to Halls Friday we pulled into Goodhope about 1700 and had full blown boils on the north side. It was a big time!! Jack it was really nice meeting you, I'm sure we will see you again! Take care Tony.

We spent ten days at the lake fishing in general improved as the moon got brighter, for the first time in a while we caught no walleye. Boils were found around mm 110,114,118 and the southern end of GHBay. Our 31st yearly family trip! Nice to meet Scott at the halls fuel dock and hear tails of some old time wordings.
