There is a fee station at the bathrooms in Farley. If you camp "over the hill" and nearer the lake it is below the high water line and is dispersed camping with no fee, but you need to have a porta-pottie. In the past 10 years we've seen a ranger twice in probably 30 trips, so it's not well monitored.Apparently the overnight fee also applies to Farley - and has been listed as such for a while. Never been there along the road into it. Is there some sort of sign/fee collection kiosk along there?
For all of you wondering about ramp improvements: NPS has secured funding and begun the process of improvement on the ramp. At first the were going to have the concrete ramp extended, but they are currently working with a Hydrologist to determine if the primative ramp would be more viable. It sounds like that will be what they will do. It will be gravel, but it's a major project and will be loads better. NPS has a company already picked out to do it, and as soon as final plan is made, they are ready to roll. I was told once they are ready, the ramp will be made to usuable year round (extending to the river if need be) and will also be maintained year round.
Sorry sir but they did nothing for the boaters, their business plan is for onshore adventures. Nothing has been done for ramp or launch improvements, there is talk but... All I see is a concessioner coming in and trying to make money off a certain business plan, good for them. No need to tax the fisherman that receive zero benefit from their investments. From what I understand if ramp launch area is improved it will be NPS money not concessioner dollars. Proud to be a Northerner! BobYou north-end fisherman are a funny group. For years on this website I've read, from many of you, about how you miss Hite and would love to go back there someday, how you loved the store being open but they didn't have much of anything, and if 'they' would only extend the boat ramp, life would be good again - I could go on.
An entrepreneur listened, and took a chance on making Hite, again, a usable destination, with the help and support of their own funds and those of NPS. And for that........ you all crap all over them.
Shame on you.
I don't know the new proprietors of Hite, but I thank them for taking a chance to make it work as a campground, launch/retrieve ramp, and ATV/bike destination. I sure hope it works out for them in the long run. But if it doesn't, we'll know, at least partly, who's to blame. -Doug
