Hite Area

Having never been as far north on the lake as Hite, the place always holds a bit of mystery to me (kind of like the North Pole). I hope to get there at some point on this Powell journey.

At full pool, what is the approximate depth of water at the bridge?

I don't know what the depth is under the bridge but this is the picture of the launch ramp at Hite (on Waynes Words) when the water was still hitting the concrete. Haven't seen it this year but I haven't seen water on the concrete for several years now. Really sad to think that there used to be a full marina, fuel dock and on lake services up there. I miss those days.

Picture #2 from Tim Bagley is showing the confluence of the Colorado and the Dirty Devil.
In 2011, we were trolling at this same confluence catching striper, after striper, after striper. We launched from the concrete ramp, as were others. Here are a few pictures from that trip:

In 2012 the concrete ramp was unusable. However you could still launch small boats from the beach across from North Wash....barely

by 2013 there was no launching at all from Hite. Since that time, we've had to launch at Bullfr0g. I hope this fall is different...

In the mid 90's when i was a kid we were trolling at the confluence shown above, and got spooled by something really big. I remember the high vis yellow braid my dad had put on, that made it that much more memorable.

My parents first trip to Powell on a houseboat was in the 70s on a rental out of Hite (they had brought a camper previously). It was early in the year and they said they had to come all the way down to Bullfrog to get out of the debris flowing into the lake.

My Grandpa has seen a floating cow with vultures on it and a VW bug coming down the river during run off around that same time frame in the early years of the lake. Crazy stuff.

A number of years ago we trolled in Zahn Bay between the basketball and an old milk jug catching many, many stripers. Messy water but productive. Chuck
